Tyco Electronics Launches 24 VDC Input SC Series for Cost Effective, Highly Efficient 10-15W Power

DALLAS, TX - January 5, 2003 - Tyco Electronics Power Systems announces the SCTM Series power modules, a smaller pin for pin replacement of the industry standard 1" x 2", 10 to15 watt, DC-DC converter. The SC Series modules provide cost savings, a 47 percent PWB space savings and increased efficiency. Available in both through-hole or surface-mount packages, the SC Series converters are designed as a cost reduced, space saving alternative to the industry standard THD product or as an SMT version for new applications in a wide range of data communications, networking, test/measurement and industrial process control equipment.

SC series modules can be used to convert a nominal 24V (18-36Vdc) input to a precisely regulated output voltage from 3.3V (up to 3.5A) to 12.0V (up to 1.25A). The output is fully isolated from the input, enabling versatile polarity configurations and grounding connections. The modules have a full load efficiency of 85 percent at 5.0Vout.

Open frame construction combined with a small profile and footprint of only 1.10 in x 0.96 in x 0.335 in (27.9mm x 24.4mm x 8.5mm) makes the modules ideal for applications where board space is at a premium. These space saving products are available in both through-hole and surface mount package options.

"The 24 volt input SC Series converter is our new generation solution for a huge range of 10-15W applications," said Sabi Varma, Vice President, Marketing and Business Operations at Tyco Electronics Power Systems. "We're pleased to offer a new benchmark in performance, efficiency and flexibility at the 10-15W output level."

Safety features, including protection against short-circuiting or output overcurrent/ overvoltage, are built into all SC series modules. Standard features also include remote on/off and output voltage adjustment. All modules are capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -40°F to +185°F (-40°C to +85°C). Output ripple and noise are minimized, removing the need for additional external filtering. SC series modules also offer monotonic start-up, even into pre-biased loads.

SC Series modules are priced at $15.80 in 1,000 unit quantities.

Samples are available now. Also available in -48Vin versions. For further information, visit www.power.tycoelectronics.com or call +1-800-526-7819.
