Equipment that Adapts
Wide-input-range DC/DC power converters are the enablers for broad-based equipment that "adapts" to different power environments. Examples include mobile IP routers for emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks, etc.) that operate from either 12V, 24V, 36V or 42V batteries...or local-number-portability equipment that can be installed in wireless base stations employing either 24V or 48V power infrastructures... or studio recording equipment that works equally well in London, Tokyo or New York.*

Before the Dot.Com Implosion...
the manufacturers of telecom/datacom equipment consumed the vast majority of merchant DC/DC power converters, and those converters were readily identified by their nominal 48V inputs and their 2:1 (36-75V) input voltage ranges.

Today, many DC/DC vendors are seeking additional opportunities in the computer, factory-automation/robotics, medical, automotive, marine/aerospace and test-and-measurement markets. Products for those markets typically have 5, 12, 24, 28 or 48V nominal inputs and often offer wider (3:1 or 4:1) input voltage ranges.

DATEL's new UHE "Q" models appeal to all markets by combining wide inputs with excellent electrical performance (efficiencies to 90%, noise as low as 50mVp-p), standard footprint, ruggedized packaging, and attractive pricing.

Ruggedized, "Non-Brick" Packaging
Eschewing the open-frame "brick" packages (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, etc.) so popular for telecom DC/DC's, UHE's have opted for a traditional, 1.6" x 2" x 0.4" (41 x 51 x 10.2mm), encapsulated plastic package. The rugged package is perfect for harsh industrial environments and requires neither the handling precautions nor active air flow normally associated with bricks.

The Basics:
All models are fully isolated (1500Vdc), line/load regulated (±0.1%/±0.15% max.), and fully I/O protected. All feature input pi filters, input undervoltage and overvoltage lockout, input reverse-polarity protection, output overvoltage protection, output current limiting, continuous short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown. Each model has a VOUT Trim pin and an On/Off Control function. 3.3VOUT and 5VOUT models offer Sense pins.

Fully Compliant
UHE's are packaged in low-cost, light-weight, diallyl phthalate (UL94V-0 rated) plastic packages with standoffs. EMC compliance is achieved via a low-noise design rather than expensive metal shielding. All models are certified to UL/EN/IEC60950 safety requirements for BASIC insulation.
"Q48" models (VIN max. = 75V) are CE marked.

Price and Delivery
UHE, Quad-Input-Range, 25-30W DC/DC Converters are attractively priced at $62 each (USA) in singles and $38.50 each for 10,000 pieces. Free sample/evaluation units for qualified OEM's and/or pre-production quantities (<25 pieces) are immediately available from stock. Production quantities require 6-8 weeks.

Order @ Web Site
DATEL, Inc. pioneered e-commerce capabilities for DC/DC converters at our web site at www.datel.com. Small quantities of UHE Series DC/DC converters (or free sample/evaluation units for qualified OEM's) can be ordered directly from the site using credit cards.
