DC-DC Converters do not require heat sink.

Press Release Summary:

Dual output, NKA03 3.3V subminiature DC-DC converters allow any distribution of load across outputs as long as total does not exceed 1W. Galvanic isolation of 3kVDC between input and outputs ensures minimum switching noise. Typical line regulation is rated at 1%, while typical ripple and noise current ratings are 30mA (peak-to-peak). Converters are supplied in fully encapsulated, UL 94V-0 compliant packaging and use toroidal magnetic construction.

Sub-Miniature, Dual Output 1W DC-DC Converters Reduce Space and Component Count In Low-Voltage, Wide Temperature Range Industrial Power Architectures

8th February, 2002, Tucson, Arizona - The latest 3.3V input, sub-
miniature, 1W dual-output DC-DC converters from C&D Technologies (NCL) offer significant space and component count savings to low-voltage industrial distributed power architectures requiring dual DC outputs from a single DC rail.

Featuring a PCB footprint of 16.55mm x 5.95mm (0.65 inches x
0.23 inches), the dual output NKA03 3.3V DC-DC converters are
supplied in a sub-miniature SIP packaging with an industry
standard pin out and are available with outputs of either 12V or
15V. The converters offer maximum design flexibility by allowing any distribution of the load across the outputs as long as the total does not exceed 1W. Galvanic isolation between input and outputs of 3kVDC ensures minimum switching noise.

In addition to saving space through their small footprint, the low-voltage NKA converters also contribute to simplified board layout and reduced component count by delivering full load performance from -40°C to 85°C without the need for a heatsink or other external cooling. Typical line regulation for the devices is rated at 1%, while typical ripple and noise current ratings are just 30mA (peak-to-peak).

The new low-voltage DC-DC converters are supplied in fully encapsulated, UL 94V-0-compliant packaging and use a toroidal magnetic construction that minimizes external fields and makes the devices ideal for applications with high component densities. An internal SMD construction that uses multilayer ceramic capacitors rather than electrolytic or tantalum alternatives contributes to a long operating life and an MTTF rating of up to 1.6 million hours.

Unit pricing for the low-voltage NKA devices is under $5.00 for OEM quantities. In addition to the standard, 'off-the-shelf' parts, C&D Technologies (NCL) can also offer custom NKA solutions.
