SynQor Introduces Non-Isolated SIP DC/DC Converters

High efficiency and high current in standard SIP package

Hudson, Mass - SynQor, the technology leader in dc/dc converters, has launched a line of non-isolated SIP dc/dc converters. The NiQor® series can deliver up to 15 amps of total output current in an industry standard single-in-line package. The new line of non-isolated, point-of-load converters represents SynQor's expanding product line for distributed power applications.

The first modules introduced in the NiQor non-isolated line have a 3.0 - 3.6V input range and deliver up to 15 amps of current at 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.5V, 1.2V and 0.9V. Employing the industry standard SIP package, the units measure 2.0" x 0.55" x 0.335", (50.8 x 14 x 8.5mm) and can be configured in either vertical or horizontal orientations. The NiQor family will quickly expand to include both a 5V input series (4.5-5.5V) and a 12V input series (9.6V-13.2V) that can deliver 10-15 amps of current at 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.5V, 1.2V and 0.9V. The modules employ synchronous rectification to achieve ultra high efficiencies of 92% at full load (3.3Vout), allowing full power with no derating at elevated ambient temperatures. On board input and output filtering keeps input ripple currents and output noise to a minimum, eliminating the need to add expensive I/O capacitors.

The non-isolated NiQor series offer point-of-load power processing for a variety of low voltage core logic levels required for today's advanced DSPs and ASICs. Combined with SynQor's expanding product line of PowerQor isolated converters and BusQor dc transformers, power designers can implement a true Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA). Supplying power to an array of different low voltage loads can be accomplished most economically with one point of isolation from an intermediate bus. The NiQor series then allows point-of-load power from the isolated high current bus for as little as $1/Amp.

"Our performance leading NiQor series opens up new markets for SynQor while offering existing customers a broader array of power solutions", says Dr. Martin Schlecht, SynQor CEO. "Customers can trust they will find the same high levels of performance, quality and reliability in our non-isolated units as they find our award-winning isolated converters".

The NiQor converters include a full complement of control and protection features such as on/off control, input UVLO, current limit, short circuit, output OVP, thermal shutdown and remote sense(+). Optional features include a current share pin for high current requirements, and a power good signal. These features allow advanced functionality, while standard safety certifications allow easy integration into the end user's product.

Sample quantities of the NiQor 15A series converters will be available in January '03 and production volume shipments will begin in Q2 2003 directly from SynQor and through their network of distributors. The NiQor series is currently offered with through-hole mounting (vertical and horizontal configurations) and will also be available in a surface mount version in Q2 2003. The modules are priced from $15.00 - $19.00 in OEM quantities.
