Astec Introduces 60 Watt, Low Cost, Dual Output 1/4 Brick DC/DC Converter Family

Industry Standard 1/4 Brick Dual Output Converter Meets Low Cost-High Performance Goals

CARLSBAD, Calif. - April 17, 2002 - Astec Power, a leading merchant supplier of power conversion solutions, today debuted its newest industry standard dual output quarter brick DC/DC converter. The AEQ15AF48 features 5 volt (V) and 3.3 V outputs. The 5V output can deliver a maximum of 12 amps (A) while the 3.3 V can deliver up to 15 A. With an operating efficiency near 90 percent, the AEQ15 delivers 60 watts of output power, in any combination demanded by the two loads.

The AEQ15 was designed to deliver exceptionally high performance at an affordable price, while still utilizing true base plate construction and Planar magnetics. Having its power components mounted on the base plate of the module means that the unit can be used with a heat sink, for deployment in harsh environments, or as a free standing, open frame device. Planar magnetics help keep the material and construction costs low and provide quick turn around time for creating new output voltage combinations. And since all of the ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) producing components are base plate mounted, connecting the electrically isolated base plate to a low-impedance system ground greatly reduces the amount of radiated EMI each unit produces.

The AEQ15 also has all of the standard features normally found in an Astec Power converter, such as a wide input voltage range (36-75 V), plus and minus ten percent output voltage "trim" adjustment capability (both outputs track each other proportionally as they are adjusted), industry standard cross regulation performance, a positive or negative logic enable input control pin, under voltage lockout with hysteresis-to prevent false starting and stopping at low input voltages, and over temperature, over current and over voltage protection. The operating base plate temperature range of the unit is a wide -40 to +105 degrees Celsius (C).

Priced starting from $72 each in 1,000 piece quantities, samples are available now.
