CISSOID Introduces EREBUS(TM), A High Temperature DC-DC Converter Platform...

Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium - CISSOID, the leader in high temperature semiconductor solutions, released their new EREBUS(TM) technology, which implements Buck (Step-Down) DC-DC Converters operating reliably and with high efficiency from -55°C to +225°C.

EREBUS(TM) DEMONSTRATION BOARD

EREBUS can step input voltages from 12 to 50V down to an output voltage adjustable from 10% to 90% of the input.

Based on CISSOID's two-chip set MAGMA-HYPERION and power transistors, the EREBUS(TM) technology includes two reference designs and a demonstration board. After ETNA and VESUVIO(TM), EREBUS(TM) is CISSOID's third family of VOLCANO reference designs for DC-DC converters that operates reliably under extreme temperatures. EREBUS(TM) is geared to higher input voltages than the previous families and features a short-circuit protection.

EREBUS(TM) Buck Converters demonstrate efficiencies in excess of 85% above 200°C. When configured as Synchronous DC-DC Converter, it operates in Continuous Current Mode (CCM) at a constant frequency, making ripple filtering easier for demanding sensor applications. EREBUS(TM) technology uses the soft-start capability of MAGMA PWM controller to enable a smooth start-up. The input voltage feed forward compensation makes it very robust to input voltage transient variations and provides a DC line regulation better than ±1.5mV/V. The demonstration board, adjusted to a 5V output, is available in two versions, for a maximum input voltage of 40V or 50V. It can deliver up to 70W at 225°C. The boards are rated to 175°C but can sustain short excursion to 225°C.

Besides these examples, EREBUS(TM) technology can be used to build DC-DC buck converters with output voltages up to 45V and delivering up to 180W (280W for Vin)

With EREBUS(TM), the VOLCANO product family of high temperature DC-DC converters from CISSOID keeps expanding. New products, including isolated converters will be announced in the coming months. With its VOLCANO products, CISSOID is bringing solutions to demanding applications like oil & gas and aeronautics; this opens up new possibilities to system designers in the industrial and automotive markets, where high temperature operation removes the need for cooling and hence improves the cost, weight and compactness of the systems.

EREBUS(TM) technology is available for licensing and includes the reference design and its schematic, a demonstration board, datasheet and application note, as well as the bill-of-material.
