Versatile and Rugged DC/DC Controller for Step-Down, Step-Up, Inverting and SEPIC Topologies

Milpitas, CA - April 12, 2005 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LT3724, a 125ºC rated wide input and output voltage range versatile DC/DC controller. The LT3724 is appropriate for use in step-down, step-up, inverting or SEPIC circuits with up to 100W of output power. A power supply incorporating the LT3724 can convert 4V to 60V input supplies to a regulated output ranging from 1.23V to 36V. Current mode operation provides several benefits including stable operation over a wide range of voltages and load currents, accurate short-circuit protection, and fast line and load transient response. To simplify output noise filtering, reduce the size of inductor and capacitors, and improve efficiency, the LT3724 operates at a constant 200kHz switching frequency. The LT3724 is a single-chip solution for multiple power supply topologies in applications such as industrial, 12V and 42V automotive and heavy equipment, avionics and telecom power systems.

The LT3724 has an on-board gate driver capable of driving large N-channel MOSFETs. The controller includes Burst Mode® operation, which reduces quiescent current below 100uA maintaining high efficiency at light loads. The operating efficiency at full load is slightly less than 95%. Moreover, an internal high voltage bias regulator allows for simple biasing and can be back driven to increase efficiency. Additional features of the LT3724 are precision undervoltage lockout, 10uA shutdown current and programmable soft-start to minimize overshoot at startup.

The LT3724 is offered in a thermally enhanced 16-pin TSSOP and is rated for operation from -40ºC to 125ºC. 1,000-piece pricing begins at $3.10 each.
