DataLase Presents New Anti-Counterfeiting Solutions

(OCTOBER 27, 2006) - DataLase (formerly Sherwood Technology), originator of the award-winning DataLase® process, recently presented its groundbreaking anti-counterfeiting solutions at the recent Product & Image Security (PISEC) conference. The presentation, given by Trevor Wilson, VP Business Development of DataLase, details product, brand and document anti-counterfeiting solutions developed by the company. The presentation entitled 'Secure laser marking using DataLase® processes' is available free-of-charge direct from DataLase.

The new presentation provides a comprehensive insight into the DataLase® process, unique product range and applications. The DataLase® process is a powerful technique capable of producing high quality, tamper resistant images easily and cost-effectively. This novel, patented technology begins by applying a special laser responsive coating onto a substrate. A computer controlled beam of very low power CO2 laser light then images the substrate. The image appears as the coating undergoes a white-to-black color change reaction where the laser light strikes. Most commercial substrate conversion processes can be used to apply DataLase coatings including gravure, flexographic, screen, pad, offset and even spray.

The new presentation contains examples for security and anti-counterfeiting solutions for:
o Laminated pharmaceutical labels
o Passport, ID and security cards
o Cigarette carton security
o Tablet coatings

DataLase® products are of interest for a wide range of different anti-counterfeiting applications. The applications demonstrated in the presentation include bar codes and graphics on laminated pharmaceutical labels, traceability codes for cigarette carton security, laser imaging within small plastic components, encapsulated imaging on packaging and microprinting on passports, ID cards and security documents.

PISEC is the world's leading and most established convention in the security printing and packaging industries. The conference provides informative programs that offer first hand advice and technology transfer opportunities for exhibitors, sponsors and delegates from around the world. PISEC 2006 took place in Barcelona, Spain, 2nd-4th October 2006.
