JasperSoft Delivers Open Source Business Intelligence Optimized for Windows and Excel

Technical Collaboration with Microsoft Delivers New Excel Integration, Ensures JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite 'Works with Windows Server 2008'

SAN FRANCISCO, March 25 -- OSBC Conference -- JasperSoft, the market leader in Open Source Business Intelligence, today announced it is working with Microsoft on a series of initiatives to optimize the JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite for Windows Server 2008 and other key Microsoft technologies. In addition, JasperSoft announced the immediate availability of the new JasperSoft ODBO Connect(TM) product, which enables Microsoft Excel to be used as a front-end for the JasperAnalysis data analysis server. These announcements extend JasperSoft's existing support for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL Server platforms.

"More than 50 percent of open source applications deployed in the enterprise are running on Windows systems," said Sam Ramji, senior director of platform technology strategy at Microsoft. "And more than 50 percent of OLAP deployments use Excel as the client interface, so we are pleased to be collaborating with JasperSoft to deliver optimized versions of the JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite for both Microsoft's server and desktop platforms and applications."

Recognizing the overwhelming prevalence of Microsoft Excel as a desktop data analysis tool, JasperSoft is introducing JasperSoft ODBO Connect, which integrates directly with Excel PivotTable reports to provide interactive access to JasperSoft's JasperAnalysis relational OLAP server. Customers can analyze data directly in Windows client tools such as Excel, instead of using a Web browser. Using OLE DB for OLAP (ODBO), XML for Analysis (XML/A), and the Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) open standards to deliver unparalleled integration, JasperSoft ODBO Connect is available immediately. ODBO is the standard application programming interface (API) for exchanging metadata and data between an OLAP server and a client on a Windows platform. Unlike most Excel integration products in the BI market, JasperSoft ODBO Connect is included at no additional charge to JasperAnalysis customers. The "Works with Windows Server 2008" program is intended to help developers and customers ensure that applications meet the baseline technical bar for compatibility with Windows Server 2008 and can be deployed with confidence immediately.

"We are pleased to deliver these tightly integrated products to our Community and Professional Edition customers," said Brian Gentile, CEO of JasperSoft. "Windows Server is a clear standard, Microsoft Excel is the most widely used desktop data analysis tool, and JasperSoft is the most widely deployed business intelligence software in the world. Together, Microsoft and JasperSoft can serve the largest and most diverse community of business intelligence customers globally."
