Xiotech Adds Continuous Data Protection to Its Data Protection Offerings

New TimeScale Solutions Provide Enterprise-Quality Data Retention for Midsized Organizations

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Sept. 19 // -- Xiotech(R) Corporation today introduced continuous data protection (CDP) capabilities for its TimeScale(TM) line of data protection systems with the addition of TimeScale 200 and TimeScale 300. The new systems continuously journal all information from any point in time and are tailored to give midsized organizations enterprise- quality data protection and recovery support.

The new TimeScale systems allow users to recover single files, applications or entire volumes at any point in time, across a retention period defined by the user. This results in a faster, easier and more predictable recovery over traditional data protection methods. The systems create application-consistent points in time, enabling instantaneous recovery for many critical applications such as Microsoft(R) Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server.

Both TimeScale 200 and TimeScale 300 feature CDP for Microsoft Windows(R) 2003 environments. TimeScale 300 provides additional long-distance replication capabilities allowing customers to deploy a mixture of data protection capabilities to meet individual application need.

The new TimeScale systems leverage an organization's existing network infrastructure and are centrally managed, providing organizations with easy- to-use, intuitive and reliable data protection implementations that improve application availability. All changes to data are protected without performance impact to the host system.

"Midsized organizations know that backup is important, but recovery is critical," said Mike Stolz, vice president of Marketing, Xiotech. "The predictability, speed and ease of use with the new TimeScale systems provide an important assurance for those situations where reliability and data availability are of the essence. With TimeScale 200 and 300, our customers can enjoy unprecedented data availability."

According to research firm Gartner Inc., the CDP market, "is forecast to grow rapidly as users develop an understanding of the technology and its potential to dramatically improve the recoverability of mission-critical applications, particularly in the small and midsize business space." ("Continuous Data Protection: When and Where," Dave Russell, June 22, 2006)

The new TimeScale systems are currently available for Microsoft Windows 2003 environments. The application is part of Xiotech's TimeScale product line, which also includes TimeScale 100 series and TimeScale 600 series systems.
