Thermo Electron Sets New Course for CDS with Atlas 8.0

Philadelphia, PA (June 30, 2005) - Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE:TMO) announces a major stability release with version 8.0 of the Atlas(TM) chromatography data system (CDS), providing significant enhancements in data acquisition and integration with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for greater productivity in the lab.

In Atlas 8.0, major improvements were made to the instrument control architecture to enhance network resilience. A key focus of the release was to ensure secure, robust communication between the instrument and Atlas software.

"We recognize that LIMS and CDS integration is a key issue for laboratories," said Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager of Thermo's Informatics business. "Customers need easy access to their data to make better informed decisions. In Atlas 8.0 and SampleManager, our flagship LIMS for the enterprise, we are providing better integration than ever before."

Built for enterprise applications, Atlas provides a single solution that not only integrates data streams from multiple instruments manufactured by multiple vendors, but also tightly integrates with LIMS that typically store summary results for each analysis. Tight integration between the LIMS and CDS enables users to access critical data when faced with a decision where the QA/QC source data is needed immediately. The robust enhancements and interoperability with Thermo's LIMS are designed for consistent reporting and shared data that increases productivity.

Atlas was developed in partnership with leading chromatographers to easily configure to any laboratory's workflow while providing the flexibility to integrate with LIMS and other data management systems for a scalable, compliant solution. As an enterprise solution on which many leading organizations have standardized, Atlas can provide savings when compared to the expense of implementing and validating multiple instrument-specific or lab-based software solutions.
