Flexible Solutions Now Featuring Switchable 5-Volt Excitation

Customers in industrial fields and other applications where low-power operation is a priority are always searching for an ideal device to limit power consumption. Now CAS DataLoggers has partnered with bestselling manufacturer dataTaker to offer customers the new dataTaker Series 3 Intelligent Universal Data Loggers which now have a switchable 5-volt excitation feature to power sensors. This feature provides up to 25 milliamps to power a wide range of analog sensors including pressure transducers, GPS, flowmeters, pulse, and many more. Users can switch this option on and off with a simple command to preserve power, for example when operating their data loggers on batteries. These versatile dataTaker solutions include the world-renowned DT80 and DT85 data loggers, boasting a rugged design that can even stand up to extreme environments and rough handling, now offered from CAS DataLoggers at cost-effective prices.

This isolated switched 5V output feature is newly available in all Series 3 dataTaker devices. The return terminal for this power output is designated as 'AGND'. This output is typically used for powering analog sensors, for example while monitoring position via GPS or for differential pressure monitoring, with a maximum output current of 25mA. These improved Series 3 data loggers incorporate a number of power management features which aim to minimize their overall power consumption, all easily configured for minimum power usage. Operators can use a simple command to switch on the isolated 5V power output, and then another to switch it off. Note that the 5V output is derived from the data logger's analog power supply, so it will turn on if the analog section is powered: by default the device's analog section is only powered while a measurement is being taken. However, if users require the 5V output to be on continuously, then they can easily use another command to continuously power the analog section.
