UEILogger(TM) Now Supports Logging from CAN, ARINC-429 and RS-232/422/485

Canton, MA (June 19, 2007) - United Electronic Industries (UEI) announces that its popular UEILogger series can now log CAN and ARINC-429 bus data as well as RS-232, 422 and 485 ports. The new capability, combined with the logger's existing ability to log analog and digital input data, makes the UEILogger a unique and very powerful product. The new functionality combined with the logger's small size and ruggedness (50g shock, -40 to +85°C, 0 - 70,000 feet) makes it an ideal data logging solution for in-vehicle testing in the aerospace, aircraft, automotive, marine and rail transportation industries. The UEILogger is also an excellent match for a host of other applications requiring a combination of traditional data logging with the ability to log CAN/429/Serial data.

One of the most powerful capabilities of the new support is the UEILogger's ability to transmit sequenced and scheduled "Query Strings" over the various communications interfaces. Simply capturing all the data on a communications bus or port is straightforward. However, some devices on the bus might only transmit their information when requested to do so. The logger allows the user to schedule data transmissions over the bus to issue these data requests without requiring any programming! The user need only enter the query string(s) desired and how frequently they need be sent. The UEILogger does the rest. Logging may even be started and stopped based on CAN-bus communications allowing the user to define events in the vehicle that will initiate and stop the logging.

"The UEILogger's ability to log analog, digital and communications data at the same time is a very rare capability." according to Shaun Miller, UEI's President. "Adding the ability to not only log data from CAN, ARINC-429 and serial devices, but to provide scheduled interrogation of devices on the various buses makes the UEILogger unique and extremely powerful."

About the UEILogger

The UEILogger(TM) is a powerful, rugged, flexible and easy-to-use data logger (or data recorder) suitable for use in a wide variety of applications. Based upon UEI's popular PowerDNA family it uses the same DNA series I/O boards. The UEILogger maintains all of the PowerDNA's flexibility and adds a powerful standalone data logging/recording capability. Each Data Logger Cube contains the Logger "engine" as well as either 3 (UEILogger 300) or 6 (UEILogger 600) I/O slots. The logger is configured by selecting the I/O boards required to match the application. The UEILogger supports sample rates up to 100 samples per second on each I/O channel or port. Data is logged onto standard SD Cards (2 Gig SD Card included) and may be retrieved via the unit's Ethernet port or the directly from the SD Card using a standard SD Card reader. The 2 Gig SD Card included will hold over 500 million 16-bit A/D readings. The intuitive, Windows-based software provided configures the data logger and extracts the data from the SD Card. There is absolutely no programming required.

About the "Cube"

UEI's innovative Cube architecture may be deployed in four configurations. The PowerDNA Cube is an Ethernet-based data acquisition and control device. The UEILogger is a high performance data logger recorder. The UEIPAC is a Linux-based Programmable Automation Controller and the UEIModbus is a Modbus data acquisition and control slave. Each "Cube" consists of a core module (that holds the processor, OS, local memory and network interface) along with three or six open I/O slots or layers. Users configure their systems by selecting appropriate I/O boards from UEI's extensive offering of analog input boards (with resolutions of 16, 18 or 24 bits, inputs to 100V or 0-20 mA), analog output (to 40V), digital input/output, counter/timer, CAN bus interface, multi-port RS-485 and RS-232, and power conversion boards.
