TI Introduces 14-bit, 190MSPS Analog-to-Digital Converter with Unprecedented Speed, Performance, Power, Size and Output Interface



DALLAS (November 28, 2005) - Utilizing its high-performance analog design expertise, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced a 14-bit, 190MSPS (mega samples per second) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with outstanding dynamic performance and low total power dissipation. The ADS5546 offers 73.2dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 84dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at the maximum sample rate of 190MSPS with an input frequency of 70MHz, making it ideal for wireless communications, video and imaging, test and measurement, and instrumentation applications. The ADS5546 offers unprecedented interface flexibility with user-selectable CMOS or DDR LVDS outputs. The device includes an internal sample and hold, low-jitter clock buffer and internal or external reference capability. The device provides a unique set of value added features, such as programmable power scaling and user-selectable output timing and level controls. It operates from a single 3.3V supply and is specified over the industrial temperature range of -40C to +85C.

TI provides customers a state-of-the-art signal chain for wideband applications with high-speed amplifiers (THS4509, OPA847), high-speed digital-to-analog converters (DAC5687), digital up/down converters (GC5016), crest factor reduction processors (GC1115), quadrature modulators (TRF3701, TRF3702) and PLLs (TRF3750, TRF3761). The ADS5546 is also optimized to work with TI's high-performance DSP platforms.

Availability and Packaging

The ADS5546 is sampling now, with volume production scheduled for 2Q 2006. The device comes in a 48-pin QFN package (7mm x 7mm) and is priced at $72.50 in 1,000 piece quantities (suggested resale pricing). Evaluation modules (EVMs) are also available.
