Scientific Software Introduces Novel Device for Instrument Control and Data Acquisition

Pleasanton, CA (November 13, 2002) - Scientific Software, Inc., a world leader in providing software solutions to the scientific community, announced today that it has introduced the OpenLAB(tm) iCON XP(tm) for intelligent control and data acquisition of analytical instrumentation. iCON XP creates a complete networking solution by reducing the number of dedicated computers and enabling full instrument Ethernet connectivity. The first implementation of OpenLAB iCON XP will be with Scientific Software's EZChrom Elite(tm) client/server chromatography data system. Used in combination with EZChrom Elite, iCON XP collects data from multiple chromatographs, enables networked instrument control and buffers data to ensure data integrity in the event of a network failure. Control of over 200 instrument modules is immediately available. The system can be configured to collect data from serial, USB, IEEE, SCSI or analog devices via the SS420X A/D converter.

The unique design of iCON XP is based upon market requirements for maximum uptime and lowered costs of validation. With its locked down design, iCON XP simplifies validation and reduces the overall costs of compliance by reducing the number of dedicated computers in the laboratory. There is no possibility of data corruption, viruses, human error or other problems that can affect dedicated computers or disk-based data acquisition devices. There are no moving parts that can fail in iCON XP, maximizing uptime and reducing the costs of ownership.

Built around embedded industry standard Microsoft Windows XP®, the system has an expandable 512MB memory card to store data even in the event of a power loss. This low profile device takes only 4" (101.6mm) of bench space. The single PCI slot can be configured with different cards, including GPIB, multi-RS232, additional Ethernet, or WI-FI for wireless networking.

Additional control modules can be created with the EZChrom Elite RapidControl(tm) Software Development Kit (SDK.) RapidControl enables the developer to create new iCON XP "personalities" for digital data acquisition and instrument control.
