Danfoss Supermarket System Manager Receives 2014 AHR Expo® Innovation Award

ADAP-KOOL® System Manager - AK-SM 800 Series wins in refrigeration category, marks 16th award in company history

BALTIMORE – Danfoss, a leading manufacturer of high efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motion systems has been recognized by a panel of ASHRAE members with a 2014 AHR Expo® Innovation Award, refrigeration category, for its ADAP-KOOL® System Manager – AK-SM 800 Series. This is the 16th AHR Expo® Innovation Award that Danfoss has received in 11 years, including five honorable mentions and one Product of the Year award.

"It is an honor to be recognized in the Innovation Awards competition again this year. Danfoss has developed a strong history with the competition, underscoring Danfoss' ability to engineer innovative and reliable technologies and solutions that represent our commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility," said John Galyen, president, Danfoss North America. "By responding to customer and market needs through product innovation, Danfoss is able to deliver improved business performance and operational savings."

Optimum Operation and Increased Efficiency

Designed and engineered with Danfoss' extensive applications expertise in energy-efficient refrigeration systems to meet the specific needs of supermarkets and other commercial food retail businesses, the new Danfoss ADAP-KOOL® System Manager – AK-SM 800 Series enables optimum operation and transparency of control systems, providing store owners new opportunities for energy savings and protection against food loss.

Adaptive suction pressure optimization ensures maximum operating efficiencies in every display case and reduces energy consumption by 10 to 15 percent without compromising food safety. The system manager also offers users the option to obtain real-time system COP read-outs for continual optimum efficiency.

Advanced Technologies, Improved Monitoring Capabilities

Featuring state-of-the-art hardware and easy-to-use navigation, the system delivers enhanced monitoring capabilities that help users improve and maintain energy use through set point management and benchmarking.

The AK-SM 800 Series features a full web interface for remote monitoring and data management, as well as immediate, clear, and precise notification of alarms throughout the store. A range of interface tools and apps for mobile devices is available to support the needs of different system user groups, from service technicians to store managers, allowing maximum flexibility and connectivity. Customized and auto-configured dashboards also are available for improved diagnostics.

Plus, the Danfoss ADAP-KOOL® System Manager – AK-SM 800 Series can be integrated with refrigeration systems that operate a variety of refrigerants, including CO2. The system is adaptable to stores using heat reclaim technology, and has built-in demand response capabilities that can help a supermarket take advantage of incentives programs sponsored by its local utility, which can further reduce energy costs.

"As energy efficiency, food safety, and environmentally-friendly natural refrigerants continue to become increasingly important to supermarkets and other food retailers, the ADAP-KOOL® System Manager – AK-SM 800 Series delivers a competitive solution," explained Peter Dee, sales director, Danfoss North America. "This system and system manager will help to set new standards for controlling and optimizing refrigeration processes in supermarkets and is designed to improve these important areas, thereby making it easy and feasible to create healthy, sustainable stores at a time when this is paramount."

The 2014 AHR Expo® Innovation Awards recognize the most creative, effective, and ingenious HVACR products and technologies on the market. The annual competition is jointly sponsored by ASHRAE; the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI); and the International Exposition Company (IEC), producers and organizers of the AHR Expo. Winners are chosen in each of 10 product categories based on innovation, value, and impact on the market and will be honored at a special ceremony on Jan. 22 during the 2014 AHR Expo® in New York City.
