Danfoss Drives' Popular VLT® AutomationDrive Now Available in 40 HP to 60 HP Range

Innovative modular design handles every motor control requirement with a single product platform

LOVES PARK, IL -- Danfoss Drives' VLT® AutomationDrive variable frequency drives are now available in the 40 - 60 HP power range. This power extension covers IP21 and IP55 rated enclosures in the voltage range 380 - 480/500 V. Additionally the VLT AutomationDrive is available to satisfy power demands from fractional to 10HP; 200-600VAC.

Manufacturing process demands for motor control can vary from simple speed control to high-performance positioning, responsiveness and accuracy. Traditionally, this required the production facility to instaadll numerous drive types from several suppliers, posing problems in maintenance costs, production efficiency, and user complexity. The VLT AutomationDrive can handle every specific motor control requirement with a single product platform. This flexibility allows users to take advantage of motor control performance for any industrial process application while keeping costs down. Additionally, Danfoss uses a unique mass customization manufacturing process that enables a new unit to be built and tested within two hours, in most cases with next-day delivery.

The VLT AutomationDrive monitors, analyzes and takes action to make sure production continues to run smoothly. The user can program it to adapt to complex operations at various points in the line using the built-in Smart Logic Controller for essential control functions or an optional MCO Programmable Logic Controller for advanced operations. Combining the two solutions allows the user to replace external PLC equipment in most situations, lowering costs and making installation easier.
The controller is simple to configure and enables the drive, motor and application to work together through a preprogrammed chain of events, or by monitoring peripheral devices such as load sensors, photoelectric sensors, dancers, encoders, or other common feedback devices.

The VLT AutomationDrive handles safety challenges with a variety of enclosure grades, built-in protection against electrical disturbances, and conformal coating for printed circuit boards. A Safe Stop function for category 3 installations according to EN 945-1 prevents unintentional starts. To leverage the power and performance potential of the VLT AutomationDrive, a highly effective heat management design for the unit's power components has been incorporated.

The user interface for the VLT AutomationDrive is simple to operate. The intuitive Local Control Panel (LCP) has total display capabilities, including graphs, charts and six set language options, plus a local language option. Quick menus, illuminated buttons and other features also were developed through intensive user studies. Installation is simple with such attributes as the two-piece plug-in terminal blocks for all connections, and spring-loaded terminations for control wiring.

Danfoss is a leading manufacturer of precision mechanical and electrical components, with locations in more than 120 countries. Danfoss created the VLT name when they introduced the world's first mass-produced VFD in 1968, and the name has set the standard for high performance quality variable frequency drives ever since.
