DALSA Extends Vision Appliance Software Capability with iNspect Color

Well suited for Color-based Quality Inspection in Packaging, Automotive and Pharmaceutical industries

BILLERICA, Mass. - June 3, 2008 - DALSA Corporation [TSX: DSA], a global leader in machine vision technology, today announced the availability of iNspect Color, a major new version of the iNspect software package for DALSA's popular line of Vision Appliances. DALSA's Vision Appliances are easy-to-use, embedded machine vision solutions that are both powerful and quick-to-deploy for automated quality inspection applications.

DALSA's Vision Appliances are equipped with two distinct styles of application interface software to accommodate the differing needs and experience of users. iNspect software is ideal for both first time and experienced vision users alike; it offers excellent inspection capabilities that can be readily applied across a multitude of applications. For experienced vision integrators, DALSA offers Sherlock software with more advanced capabilities.

With the introduction of iNspect Color, this breakthrough machine vision inspection tool adds support for color processing, as well as extensive new inspection capabilities. iNspect Color provides the ability to segment images by color such that all of the standard measurement tools can be applied to the inspection task, including verification, sorting and inspection of parts and assemblies.

Typical color applications include:

o Confirming that the correct color cap or label is applied in the packaging industry

o Verifying the number and color of pills in a blister pack for pharmaceutical applications

o Inspecting the color or texture of interior automotive parts

o Verifying the order of color wires in a cable harness, or fuses in a fuse box, in the automotive industry

o Identifying and sorting product by color across all industries

In addition to color support, the software also provides new and incremental tool improvements, interactive tool setup and easier integration to third party devices such as Rockwell Automation PLCs. Special features, such as on the fly image rotating and multi-camera tiling, have been added to further simplify application setup. Similarly, multi-camera display and statistical trend plots are now available on the operator interface.

These new features broaden iNspect's diverse application reach without compromising its trademark ease-of-use. For more complex applications, iNspect's script-like programming interface has been expanded to offer maximum flexibility when needed. Likewise, for OEMs or system integrators, iNspect now offers extensive network commands for program integration.

For more information about iNspect software, visit the iNspect section of the company's web site. iNspect Color will begin shipping this month on DALSA Vision Appliances. Color applications are supported with DALSA Genie color cameras ranging in resolution from 640x480 to 1600x1200.
