Fairchild Semiconductor's New D/A Converter Combines High Frequency Performance with Very Low Power Dissipation

San Jose, Calif.-October 30, 2003-Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) announces the new SPT5240, a high frequency, 10-bit digital-to-analog converter boasting over 80% lower power dissipation than comparable competitive devices. At a fast, 400MWPS update rate, the SPT5240 dissipates just 149mW (typ) (@fCLK = 400MHz and 12mA output). The SPT5240 is the ideal D/A converter for test equipment, medical diagnostic and imaging, portable communications, and other battery-operated equipment requiring high-speed data conversion. It is also well suited to applications including set top boxes, video displays and broadband RF.

"The high speed offered by this new 400MWPS D/A converter makes it an excellent choice for today's instrumentation applications," said Olav Linquist, marketing manager of Fairchild's Signal Conditioning Group. "The SPT5240 combines low power with high speed, which is also important for tomorrow's portable and battery-powered equipment."

Additional benefits of the SPT5240 converter include an extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), complementary current outputs, and an internal reference. The SPT5240 is available in a 32-lead LQFP package and operates from a 3.3V supply.

The SPT5240 data converter adds to Fairchild's portfolio of products targeted at low power applications. These products include amplifiers, ultra-low power LDOs, switching regulators and MOSFETs, TinyLogic®, as well as supervisory products such as temperature sensors and reset generator circuits.
