Cylinder Position Sensor offers 4 programmable setpoints.

Press Release Summary:

ProSet4(TM) rod-style cylinder transducer provides detection of end-of-stroke or any position in between. It has 4 discrete setpoint outputs, each offering 4 possible switching modes: on-off, off-on, on-off-on, and off-on-off. Programming options include local, using programming tool, or remote, using teach-in connections. Unit installs in probe-ready, steel-walled cylinders and provides motion control without need for continuous position feedback.

Balluff Introduces New ProSet4TM Cylinder Position Sensor with Four Programmable Setpoint Outputs

Designed specifically for cylinder position sensing, the ProSet4 provides unmatched cylinder control flexibility

FLORENCE, KY (November 2003) - Balluff's ProSet4, the newest member of the company's Micropulse family of rod-style cylinder transducers, offers a new option for cylinder position sensing, with four built-in programmable setpoint outputs for detection of end-of-stroke or any position in between. The ProSet4 is ideal for reliable positioning duties on injection molding machines, woodworking equipment, packaging machinery and presses.

"The new ProSet4 has four discrete setpoint outputs, each providing four possible switching modes: on-off, off-on, on-off-on, and off-on-off," comments Balluff Transducer Product Manager Henry Menke. "The four outputs, combined with four modes of operation, allow sophisticated motion control without the need for continuous position feedback. This four setpoint system can not only detect cylinder end-of-stroke, it can also define intermediate points to change piston speed and direction anywhere along the length of piston travel. The two cam profile modes offer two signal changes per output, allowing additional motion control flexibility with minimal hardware."

Designed to be the most versatile cylinder sensor on the market, the ProSet4 provides flexible operation using discrete I/O instead of more costly analog control inputs. It has two easy programming options - local, using a handy programming tool, or remote, using teach-in connections. Interfacing a ProSet4 with a direct-input, ramping proportional valve allows simple setup of speed and position ramping profiles, without the need for an additional dedicated axis motion controller.

It installs just like a traditional magnetostrictive displacement transducer in probe-ready, steel-walled cylinders, and eliminates the need for pressure-rated end-of-stroke sensors or multiple external proximity sensors, brackets, targets, cables, and connection blocks. Balluff's exclusive Auto-Tuning(TM) circuitry allows use of Balluff or competitor magnets, making retrofits a snap.

Balluff Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Balluff GmbH & Co., Neuhausen, Germany, is a leading manufacturer of a wide variety of inductive, optical, capacitive and magnetic sensors as well as linear position transducers and ID systems.
