Cyber Security and ADAS Development to be a Highlight of FEV Exhibit at SAE World Congress

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – As the focus of automotive development expands to include systems that are data-controlled and driven, the need for security becomes increasingly important. FEV has developed a suite of services that make it a "one-stop shop" for design, development, testing and deployment of cyber security and ADAS solutions, some of which will be shown at the 2016 SAE World Congress, April 12 - 14 at Cobo Center in Detroit.

FEV's services focus on the Connected Vehicle eco-system and its numerous components and interfaces.  The company assists its customers with securing safety and fostering advances in automotive technologies.  FEV Cyber Security services focus on the entire product lifecycle, from concept to in-field support through management, testing, and hardware and software design solutions.  Working together with the company's partners, FEV also addresses specific IT related threats and solutions.

FEV will demonstrate its cyber security gateway concept on the SAE World Congress show floor. This gateway can function either as a standalone or as an integrated solution that is connected to the vehicle communication bus to detect malicious activities and then prevent them from causing harm to the vehicle and/or its occupants. This specialized FEV gateway can also function as a firewall between the OBDII port and the vehicle bus to protect the vehicle from this potential cyber security threat entry point. The gateway allows for a quick and targeted deployment by an OEM or a large fleet owner to protect their products.

Through a unique set of software functions and algorithms for Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) as well as specific vehicle adaptation and calibration, the gateway significantly reduces the cyber security risks faced by today's connected vehicle.

FEV offers various capabilities that support the development of an effective cyber security system, beginning with security management.  FEV supports its customers with threat and risk modeling services, including prioritized threat and incidence response analysis and real time intrusion detection.  Security testing as well as hardware and software design are other areas in which FEV supports its electronics customer base.

FEV will also demonstrate an example of its capabilities in the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). FEV assists its customers in designing and integrating advanced ADAS and Autonomous Driving (AD) features and functions. The company's development and implementation tasks leverage in-depth powertrain, chassis, body, infotainment, and connectivity sub-system knowledge that FEV has acquired over many years of experience in performing customer projects.

To demonstrate this competence, FEV will show an example project in object detection. The project includes depth-sensing cameras to differentiate between road and near objects. Sensor data is converted to a point cloud that allows for manipulation in 3D to obtain real world, pixel-height information. Object heights above a calibrated threshold are highlighted and overlaid onto an RBG image to show detected obstacles to the driver.  The application is being developed to run on NVIDIA's Tegra K1 embedded processor to take advantage of an embedded GPU for image processing algorithms (OpenCV, CUDA).

FEV engineers design, develop, integrate and calibrate secure solutions in various vehicular networks, while leveraging their broad vehicle architecture and connected vehicle end-to-end ecosystem expertise.  The company also offers extensive experience in embedded system development. Combined, these capabilities allow FEV to integrate and calibrate secure solutions for current and future customer products.
