Innovation Adds Strength to Classic Snap-On Cutting Pliers

COLD FORGING AND ADJUSTED CUTTING PROVIDE ADDITIONAL 25 PERCENT LEVERAGE

KENOSHA, Wis., November 21, 2005 - Every once in a while a breakthrough comes along that revolutionizes a decades old product. Such is the case with the Snap-on® High Leverage Diagonal Cutter (86CF). Snap-on re-tooled the timeless design of its traditional cutting pliers and re-engineered the cutting surface and pivot joint to create the Snap-on PowerEdge(TM) design, which is now incorporated into the company's full line of cutting pliers.

The Snap-on High Leverage Diagonal Cutter and its PowerEdge cutting surfaces efficiently cut a wide range of wire sizes, from soft 0.026-inch diameter copper wire to high-strength 0.063-inch diameter music wire. A precision-machined joint has tighter tolerances to give increased control while working, extending the tool's life and eliminating wear and looseness in the joint. The tool features red vinyl handle covers for comfort and to reduce fatigue.

The Snap-on PowerEdge(TM) Design
Deemed the most important innovation in cutting pliers in the last 60 years, the new design uses the latest technology and cold forming to create a flat surface on one side that tapers from the joint to the tip. This tapered design provides more control and strength for cutting a variety of materials. Thinner items that require more finesse can be cut with just the tips of the cutters, but using the thicker edges closer to the joint the tool can cut heavier materials. The new design gives the High Leverage Diagonal Cutter and all Snap-on cutters up to 25 percent more leverage compared to competitive models.

A unique design innovation of the PowerEdge is the slight relief between the cutting edges near the joint. This relief enables the precision operation at the tip and also produces a heavy duty pinching cut near the joint.

Other PowerEdge Cutting Pliers
Snap-on recently incorporated the PowerEdge into all of its cutters, bringing power and control to all types of applications. Products include the traditional, extended length, mini and pistol grip diagonal cutters.
