Cutters and Inserts handle heat resistant alloys.

Press Release Summary:

Made with ceramic grade Kyon 2100, cutters work at speeds of 3000 sfm to rough mill nickel, cobalt, and iron based heat resistant alloys. Cutters and inserts also machine Waspalloy, Haynes 25, Inconel 718, Stellite and similar materials at cutting speeds of 2000 to 4500 sfm and feed rates of 0.002 to 0.005 ipt. Also available are KC9110 and KC9125 inserts, both with 3 coating layers: TiCN, fine-grain Al203, and thin layer of TiCN and TiN.

New High Temperature Alloy Cutters Highlight Kennametal IMTS Exhibit

(Latrobe, PA) New high temperature alloy milling cutters that boost productivity 100% to 500% on high temperature alloys by machining at cutting speeds of 3000 surface feet per minute (sfm) and higher will highlight the Kennametal exhibit at booth E-2105 of the IMTS 2002 Manufacturing Conference, which takes place September 4 - 11 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

The key to the performance of the new milling cutters is a new ceramic grade, Kyon 2100, that is specially engineered for rough milling of nickel, cobalt, and iron-based heat resistant alloys and cuts at speeds 10 to 25 times faster than carbide grades. The new cutters and inserts machine Waspalloy, Haynes 25, Inconel 718, Stellite and similar materials at cutting speeds of 2000 sfm to 4500 sfm and feed rates of 0.002 inches per tooth (ipt) to 0.005 ipt, providing metal removal rates of eight to 15 times faster than cutters using carbide inserts.

The Kennametal exhibit will also feature two new steel turning grades that provide higher performance than any other similar tooling. Grade KC9110 is an ISO class P10 grade that is designed for finishing operations while Grade KC9125 is a P25 class grade designed for universal machining on all types of steel. KC9110 and KC9125 inserts both feature a unique combination of three coating layers: titanium carbonitride (TiCN), fine-grain alpha structure aluminum oxide (Al203), and a thin layer of titanium carbonitride (TiCN) and titanium nitride (TiN).

Kennametal will also be showing several additional milling products that offer major performance gains on many different materials. The Fix Perfect cast iron milling line, featuring the first ceramic inserts with eight true cutting edges, can triple cast iron milling productivity. Fix Perfect aluminum milling cutters offer a unique on-edge insert orientation and an industry-high 34° positive rake that make it possible to double metal removal rate without increasing horsepower consumption.

Finally, Kennametal will also be showing KM Micro, the world's only quick-change tooling system available for Swiss-style tool platforms.
