Spheri(TM) Bulk Material Cut-Off Valve Features Reliable, Fast-Closing Dome Design

MILFORD, OH (September 5. 2002) - The Spheri Valve(TM) from Clyde Materials Handling is an innovative fast-closing bulk materials cut-off valve featuring a long-lasting dome assembly design. The simple but robust construction allows reliable, unrestricted full bore material flow and minimizes the possibility of material build-up within the valve body.

The Spheri Valve design features an inflatable seal, which automatically deflates during opening and closing, and inflates only when the dome is fully closed, thereby eliminating unnecessary wear. A quarter turn is sufficient to move from the fully closed to the fully open position. With only one moving part, the Spheri Valve simplifies preventative maintenance and parts replacement.

All Spheri Valves are capable of handling fine grain materials and hard abrasive products. Vane actuator models can cut through static columns of material up to 1/8" in particle size, and through moving columns of powders, pastes and granular products similar to coal, above 1/8". Cylinder actuator models have the added capability of being able to cut through static columns of material over 1/8" in particle size.

The valves can handle pressures up to 435 psi and material temperatures from -4° to 900°F, lasting up to 1,000,000 cycles between major overhauls in many applications. The Spheri Valve can be used for abrasive, friable and toxic materials, including foodstuffs, ores, detergents, ash and many other materials.

Valve sizes - from 2" to 20" - are available, as are several end connection configurations. Water-cooled options are offered for applications involving temperatures in excess of 400°F, as are special features such as a solenoid valve and timer, and a quick exhaust valve.

The Spheri Valve dome can be made from cast iron, S G iron, stainless or carbon steel. Four surface coatings are available for the handling of materials ranging from fine and abrasive to sticky and cohesive. Several inflatable seals are offered, including a food quality seal as well as those specially formulated for high temperature or other hostile applications.

Clyde Materials Handling is a market-leading manufacturer of systems for bulk materials handling, including DensPhase(TM) and RotoFeed(TM) pneumatic conveying systems, ancillary materials handling equipment such as the Spheri Valve(TM) bulk materials cut-off valve, and a variety of routing valve styles.
