Technically Advanced: GE's Series 9000 Large Synchronous Machines Deliver Power Efficiently through Customized Solutions

Fort Wayne, IN - Series 9000 large synchronous machines from GE Motors, part of GE Consumer and Industrial, are built for today's toughest industrial environments and designed with advanced internal components to fit the unique needs of demanding applications such as compressors, grinding mills, metal rolling, mine hoists, refiners, propulsion, fans, pumps and power turbines. Through customization, GE helps to minimize commissioning time, reduce maintenance costs, increase reliability and optimize performance.

GE Motors manufactures high horsepower bracket bearing machines and offers pedestal bearing machines throughout its product range. The bracket frame machine is shipped completely assembled, when requested, to allow for faster installation and commissioning time. Both the pedestal and bracket bearing machines are available based on application requirements. The bearing system, low overall vibration and proper lubrication help extend the life of the motor and allow for easy maintenance.

The advanced insulation system used on the Series 9000 machines provide years of reliable operation, whether on fixed or adjustable speed applications. GE's insulation systems are designed to minimize the effects of localized electrical stress and reduce the effects of partial discharge. These features are known to increase machine life and reliability. Components for the insulation system are carefully chosen for compatibility. The system is then subjected to rigorous testing according to applicable IEEE, IEC, NEMA and API standards.

All AC Series 9000 machines undergo global vacuum-pressure impregnation (VPI) treatment. This process employs automated capacitance monitoring to ensure that each stator winding is fully impregnated with epoxy resin. This also ensures that the stators have a high degree of rigidity and an excellent dielectric strength. Vacuum-pressure impregnation increases the resistance of the winding to thermal shock, moisture and other contaminants.

Rotor construction of the Series 9000 machines is available up to 1800 RPM. GE's unique 4 and 6 pole solid salient rotor is constructed with integral pole tips which provide high thermal capacity and optimum efficiency during frequent starts or high load inertia settings The rotor's single-forging design also provides maximum reliability, strength and stiffness.
