Customizable Security

PureStat Engineered Technologies (PureStat) teamed up with Sigma Labs and Engineered Materials, Inc. (EMI) to develop a series of the most advanced ESD and RFI shielding products available. One of these products came from the necessity to protect key crime scene and investigative data by the Australian Police Force.  The police force needed to combat a feature of smartphones that wipes the memory of the phone clear via a digital signal. This feature was invented as a failsafe for information if someone were to lose his or her cell phone. The unintended consequence of this feature that the Australian Police, as well as all police departments around the world, have run into is the ability of criminals to wipe out valuable information and possible evidence from phones, after a phone is confiscated.

The biggest obstacle facing police was speed. They needed a way to protect a phone almost instantly at the scene of an arrest or confiscation, and be able to transport it to a safe and shielded facility. Any delays could mean losing the valuable information. The natural solution would be something light and portable, so a bag was a natural fit. The problem was, traditional bag structures could not shield  new and old technology with spectrum spreads from high Megahertz to multiple Gigahertz ranges. The most challenging issue was shielding new technology phones, which not only covers the myriad of transmission frequencies, but also includes LTE with extremely highly sensitive receivers but also the high power satellite phones in common use in Australia. The police force needed one product to combat the entire spectrum of RF transmission, reception, and power.

This is where the partnership between Sigma, and Engineered Materials, in conjunction with PureStat became advantageous.  Sigma brought its ESD, Shielding and Corrosion expertise in consulting, testing and analytics with EMI’s expertise in materials and structures combining with the vertical manufacturing and depth of ESD and shielding expertise at PureStat.  This perfect combination allowed for the creation of a unique multi-layer film structure called MBB 7000.  This ground breaking film, and products made from it, protects against all RFI frequencies, so that the police force could block any and all attempts to clear information and stay one step ahead of criminals.
