New Modular System for Customized BLDC Motor Series

Modular Construction Provides IP54 Drive Systems Tailored to Suit

Modern small drive systems for industrial automation, laboratory and medical or packaging technology frequently have to fulfil a wide variety of tasks. The drive experts at ebm-papst St. Georgen have now developed a new approach in customising drive systems equipped for the specific application. Individual modules can be configured and put together according to a requirements profile specified by the user. The simple, yet ingenious connection technology enables the finished drive to conform to the protection class IP54 at no extra cost. Various basic motors, gearboxes, encoders, absolute encoders, spring-applied brakes and permanent magnet brakes are available. On the electronics side integrated modules from simple commutation electronics to independent control systems with CANopen interface are available. The first representative of this new motor family is the ECI 63. It features astounding values in terms of rated output power of over 400 W and a nominal torque of up to 1 Nm as well as a motor efficiency of nearly 90% at a diameter of just 63 mm. In 2011, a motor with a diameter of 42 mm and others with diameters of 32 to 80 mm will follow, which are all designed according to the same modular principle. All motors are equipped with mounting holes on various pitch circles for flange mounting and can be operated by a uniform implementation and programming tool when using the CANopen interface. This allows them to be easily integrated and maintained in various systems and machines.
