Handling Specialty Produces Custom Mast Lift for Turbine Equipment Inspection
(Niagara Falls, NY October 27, 2003) Handling Specialty has designed a new mast lift that offers motion on 2 axes for turbine equipment inspection in a power generation facility. With a capacity of 5,000 lbs., this specialty lift allows the tooling and fixture to be raised at a rate of approximately 2.5 ft per minute. Mechanical actuation was used to meet the requirement for positive locking thereby allowing the tooling to be held at any elevation for extended periods of time. The lift is also equipped with a power rotator which rotates the tooling 180 degrees at the full "up" position.
An unusual element of the lift's design is the lack of overhead connection between the columns. Per the customer's specifications, this permits the lift to be loaded via overhead crane. The controls for this unit include a handheld remote control unit, expansion space for a light curtain or safety mats, and sensors to ensure that the fixture is properly attached to the lift before any motion can occur.
