Tyco Electronics Offers IP66 and NEMA-Compliant Touchmonitors for Wind Turbine Applications

-- Elo TouchSystems Touchmonitors for Environmentally Challenging Applications --

HARRISBURG, Pa. - June 1, 2008 - Tyco Electronics now combines high-performance LCD panels with the industry-leading Elo TouchSystems touch technologies to create, with very short lead times, custom large-screen, wide-aspect industrial touchmonitors. The monitors have models developed to be compliant with NEMA 1, 2, 4, 4X, 5, 12, 12K and 13, as well as IP66 standards. The custom solution touchmonitors, ranging in size from 15-inch through 32-inch, can be used in environmentally challenging environments such as wind turbines, paint shops, marine and other applications. The industrial monitors, offering wide-viewing angles from 160° to 178°, are supplemented by brightness as high as 1400 nits. The new large-screen, wide-aspect monitors include a choice of Elo TouchSystems touch technologies, including IntelliTouch surface wave, surface capacitive, AccuTouch 4-wire resistive and the innovative Acoustic Pulse Recognition (APR). Elo's touch technologies provide stable, durable touch options that are resistant to scratches, liquids and corrosive elements and can be activated in a variety of ways.

Choice of Inputs
The variety of Elo TouchSystems touch technologies allows customers to select the type of touchmonitor that is most appropriate for their specific application and method of interaction with the monitor. An appropriate touch technology can be selected so that virtually any material (gloves, bare fingers, pens, styli, etc.) can be used to actuate the touchscreens under a broad spectrum of conditions, high ambient light conditions, water on the screen, extreme heat or cold.

Designed for Sight
According to product manager Brian Shannon, large, bright screens with wide-viewing angles give developers the ability to design applications that captivate the user's attention. "We're not only a leader in touch technology, but one of the largest producers of touchmonitors. We've put our nearly 40 years of experience behind the design and manufacture of our new family of large, wide-aspect touchmonitors. Elo TouchSystems' APR and IntelliTouch touch technologies offer a higher level of light transmission to the user, up to 92%."

The Right Fit
The Elo TouchSystems Customs Solutions Group can produce touchmonitors to suit custom configurations and customer requirements including harsh environments. The group's rapid prototyping capabilities allow them to take any standard Elo TouchSystems touch technology and create a customized integrated touchmonitor solution to meet customer needs within a short period of time. According to Greg Swistak, director of Elo TouchSystems' Custom Solutions Group, "We can produce monitors with a performance few other companies can match and in far less time because of our tight integration with R & D, rapid prototyping and efficient supply chain."
