CT Series Current Sense Transformers Now Meet RoHS EU Directive

Lead-Free Solder, No Cadmium, No Mercury-- Including Bobbin Materials

ROMOLAND, CA-December 21, 2004--CT Series Current Sense Transformers manufactured by Datatronics Distribution, Inc., now meet the requirements of European Directive 20002/95/EC governing the manufacture of electronic components (including bobbin materials) and electronic equipment, which requires the use of lead-free solder as well as the elimination of cadmium and mercury.

This directive was published in January, 2003, by the European Union (EU) and was adopted in recognition of the waste management environmental problems linked to heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury and others). The directive says that electrical and electronic products for sale in the EU after July 1, 2006, with some exceptions, will not contain lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) or polybrominated ethers (PBDEs).

The CT Series Current Sense Transformers for dc-dc converter applications feature a compact 6mm square surface mount design with a 4mm seated height. Turns ratios are available from 1:20 to 1:200, and it performs optimally at frequencies of 100kHz and above. Key electrical parameters include an inductance range of 100 to 11000mH, a resistance range of 0.50 ohms to 27.50 ohms maximum and an isolation voltage of 500 Vrms minimum.

By June 2005, Datatronics will provide RoHS Directive compliant components for all of its standard product lines. Upon customer request Datatronics will supply RoHS compliant components in the interim time period.

"Meeting RoHS requirements represents a significant commitment from Datatronics to our customers in Europe--as well as the global community because the quality of the environment affects all of us. As a company, we are dedicated to manufacturing magnetic components that meet the industry's most demanding standards-including environmental compliance," explains Randy Eller, Vice President, Sales & Marketing.

Datatronics produces a wide range of magnetic components for the automotive, aerospace, consumer, computer, lighting, medical, telecom and many other industries. Complying with the RoHS Directive at Datatronics required a solid commitment from employees at all levels and disciplines, which included engineering, new product development, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
