Cummins Power Generation Standby Power Systems Earn OSHPD Preapproval for Seismic Certification

First Manufacturer to Have Certified Low-Range Generator Sets as well as Transfer Switches and Controls Preapproved by the State of California

MINEAPOLIS - Cummins Power Generation's 10 kW-230 kW generator sets have been added to the list of equipment and components meeting the rigorous standards for preapproved seismic certification by OSHPD, California's Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. The complete list of preapproved equipment is available here:

These low-range generators join the company's automatic transfer switches (ATS) and digital master controls (DMC) that earned the OSHPD Special Seismic Certification Preapproval (OSP) earlier this year. Cummins Power Generation is thus the first company with the ability to supply an entire preapproved standby power system for hospitals in California. Cummins Power Generation is now able to supply the listed products to healthcare facilities without having to shake-test the actual units being delivered. That means faster installation and commissioning.

The 10 kW-230 kW generator preapproval covers configurations with a generator set only, generator and sub-base fuel tank, and generator with fuel tank and enclosure. The automatic transfer switches are listed for ground-level g-forces up to 2.17, the highest rating OSHPD has assigned to an ATS.

"We are pleased with the preapproved status of our 10 kW-230 kW generator sets, and we are progressing in our efforts to obtain OSHPD preapproval for our entire product line," said Claire Roper, director, Commercial Generator Set Sales, North America. "Currently, we are the only manufacturer that can provide generator sets, automatic transfer switches and digital master controllers, all with OSHPD preapproval."

About OSHPD

The purpose of OSHPD certification is to ensure that hospitals and other "Critical Care Units" in California will be able to continue functioning during and after an earthquake. The program covers all critical parts of a healthcare facility, including the building itself and its power systems, as well as electrical, mechanical and diagnostic equipment. The Facilities Development Division (FDD) established the Special Seismic Certification Preapproval (OSP) Program in 2009 in response to the overwhelming number of applications from thousands of healthcare facilities for OSHPD project approval.
