Original Press Release:

Low-cost, Pb-free SMD TCVCXOs deliver 0.5 ppm over -40° to +85°C

A miniature, low-cost, lead-free TCVCXO (temperature compensated, voltage controlled crystal oscillator) range offering frequency stability of ±0.5 parts per million over the -40° to +85°C temperature range has been introduced by C-MAC MicroTechnology. Packaged as a standard 7 x 5 mm SMD, the new CFPT-126 is available in a range of frequencies between 10 and 40 MHz for use in GPS, communications, networking and instrumentation applications.

To help equipment manufacturers to comply with new environmental obligations, the CPFT-126 is designed for lead free soldering and compliant with all requirements of the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) regulations.

With a 3.3 V supply voltage and HCMOS output at nominal frequencies of 10.0, 12.8, 13.0, 16.384, 19.44, 20.0, 26.0, 32.768 and 40.0 MHz, the CFPT-126 is applicable to a range of applications including telecommunications, microwave and satellite communication systems, GPS, Ethernet products, and test and measurement equipment. Its output frequency can be adjusted by more than ±5 ppm through voltage control to calibrate it to nominal after assembly.

The CFPT-126 is supplied on standard tape and reel and supports lead-free reflow soldering at 260°C. Storage temperature range is -55° to +125°C, and typical ageing over the first year is ±1 ppm at 25°C. Components are held in stock for fast delivery.

"Despite their high stability, C-MAC can provide these new TCXOs as off-the-shelf products at off-the-shelf prices," said Mary Carbin, Business Development Manager with C-MAC Frequency Products. "Not that we're expecting them to stay on the shelves for long at the price-performance point we are offering - we envisage a significant mass-market uptake in emerging GPS, comms and instrumentation applications."

About C-MAC MicroTechnology:

C-MAC MicroTechnology specialises in the design and manufacture of high-reliability products. With design and manufacturing facilities in the UK, France, Belgium and Canada and additional dedicated sales offices within Europe, the USA and China, C-MAC MicroTechnology serves the military, aerospace, transportation, medical, industrial and communications equipment sectors, and has built up an extensive portfolio of intellectual property resources and an impressive electronics design and manufacturing pedigree geared specifically to these industries. C-MAC's products are usually found in applications that operate in harsh environments, often at extremes of temperature or frequency.

C-MAC MicroTechnology comprises two business units: C-MAC MicroSystems Solutions and C-MAC Frequency Products.

C-MAC Frequency Products has a 70-year history of manufacturing quartz-based frequency control products and now has four design, engineering, manufacturing and sales centres in Crewkerne, Harlow and Lincoln, UK, and Argenteuil, France. Its product range encompasses AT and SC cut crystals, crystal oscillators, voltage controlled crystal oscillators (VCXOs), temperature compensated crystal oscillators (TCXOs), oven controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs), and rubidium oscillators and clocks. Particular specializations include patented ASIC-based high-stability TCXOs, ultrastable OCXOs and SDH/SONET reference oscillators.
