CTS Announces New 5mm x 7mm HCMOS Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator with Tristate Enable/Disable Feature

Elkhart, IN... CTS Corporation (NYSE:CTS), a global supplier of voltage controlled crystal oscillators (VCXOs) and reference clocks for the communications industry, today introduced Model 357, a new 5mm x 7mm surface mount VCXO with a frequency signal output that will interface with HCMOS electronic circuitry. CTS Model 357 is targeted to support SONET, DSL and Cable Modem applications where frequency servo (frequency adjustment from electronically applied voltage) is required. The total estimated annual global market for 5mm x 7mm HCMOS VCXOs approximates $60 million.

"The new CTS VCXO offers systems providers the opportunity to save board space and cost over traditional 9mm x 14mm VCXO package solutions," according to Dave Holmes, vice president and
general manager, CTS Frequency Control Products. "This is the next generation of VCXOs, incorporating the technologies required for advanced datacom equipment," adds Holmes.

Model 357 is presently available in frequencies from 1.500 MHz to 45.000 MHz. Developmental efforts are ongoing to increase the frequency offering to 125.000 MHz. The tristate feature enables the output frequency to be electrically switched to enable or disable the frequency source. The Model 357 also offers an APR (Average Pull Range) of plus/minus 50 ppm or plus/minus 32 ppm to servo the frequency back to its nominal value as the product operates over its temperature range. Operating temperatures from 0 to 70 degrees C (commercial range) and minus 40 to plus 85 degrees C (industrial range) are offered.

Product samples and initial production quantities are now available. High-volume production shipments will begin in August from CTS' facility in Singapore, where the Company has manufactured high-volume, low-cost, precision frequency control products since 1981.
