Crimson Fire to Showcase Four Fire Trucks at FDIC

Innovative Technology, Design Appeal to Demand for Strength, Safety, Storage, Serviceability & Style

BRANDON, S.D., April 27 / -- Crimson Fire will showcase four new fire trucks featuring innovative technology and design improvements during FDIC, the industry's largest fire-rescue conference and trade show.

The Brandon, South Dakota-based manufacturer of custom fire trucks will feature two pumpers, a rear-mount aerial platform and a wildland fire unit at FDIC, which opens today in Indianapolis. Vehicles from Crimson Fire, which is a subsidiary of Charlotte, Michigan-based Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPAR), can be viewed at Booth 2627.

Crimson Fire is also unveiling its new 5S marketing campaign, which uses five key selling points -- strength, safety, storage, serviceability and style -- to showcase the features and benefits of its custom fire and rescue vehicles. Bold display graphics stationed at each vehicle highlight the key attributes, while offering more detailed engineering specs for purchasing decision.

"We are very pleased to be expanding our top-selling Star and SE Series product lines with the addition of these new vehicles," said Jim Salmi, president of Crimson Fire. "We spent time listening to fire chiefs and understanding their needs before we began designing these trucks, which go above and beyond the standard requirements of the fire service.

"Fire departments tell us that they are interested in dependable vehicles that allow their personnel to do what are inherently dangerous jobs as safely as possible. We are showcasing new technology and features that will deliver the things that fire departments tell us they want, from improved serviceability to more storage options."

Crimson Fire is adding to its Star Series with two new pumpers: a heavy- duty custom pumper and a rear-mount pumper/tanker. Both offer an exceptional array of innovative features that offer greater safety, more storage options and improved serviceability to fire departments.

The heavy-duty custom pumper is built on a Spartan Motors Advantage Chassis, featuring an 18,000 pound capacity independent front suspension, utilizing air bag technology that Spartan transferred to the emergency rescue industry from its recreational vehicle experience. The pump and plumbing system feature a 1,000-gallon water tank and a 1,500 gpm Waterous CSU Pump. Additionally, the heavy-duty pumper offers:

o Added strength due to its tubular construction mounted on the patented Vibra-Torq(TM) system to reduce the effects of vibrations
o Custom equipment storage solutions, including a "chauffeur compartment"
o A SmartVision(TM) multiplex electrical system that reduces downtime and allows for easier maintenance

The unique rear-mount pumper/tanker is built on a Spartan Motors Gladiator MFD Chassis, featuring a 525hp CAT engine integrated with the SmartVision driver-officer-pump operator controls and color displays. The pump and plumbing system feature a 2,000-gallon water tank, a 2,000 gpm Waterous pump and a compressed air foam system.

Central to the design is the rear-mount pump module system, which offers greater safety benefits while making serviceability easier and faster. Specific features include:

o Diagrammatic rear-mount pump panel user interface with operator's panel
for greater visibility
o A SmartPump Access(TM) system with four-way entry to improve
maintenance access and reduce vehicle down time
o A Glideback(TM) pump module with patent-pending technology
o An integrated SmartStep(TM) rear tailboard with slide-out/slide-in functionality

Crimson Fire is also introducing the Star Series 100-foot rear-mount aerial platform, which expands its line of aerial ladder products. The new vehicle offers a number of features unique to Crimson Fire, such as patent- pending X-style outriggers that offer 15 percent leveling for improved safety and a patent-pending greaseless RAASP roller-system that greatly reduces maintenance time and effort.

Additionally, the new aerial features:
o A patent-pending ladder lift cradle that enhances stability and lowers overall travel height
o SmartStorage(TM) wheel well area that offers innovative storage
solutions utilizing an area of traditionally wasted space
o A multiplexed low-voltage electrical system for enhanced safety
interlocking capabilities
o An ergonomically designed platform structure with easy egress, controls
mounted on a unique sliding mechanism to improve the operator's view,
and excellent storage for hose, air masks and other equipment

Finally, Crimson Fire will introduce the Star Series Wildland/Initial Attack vehicle, designed to combat fires in wilderness areas. With more than 60,000 wildfires each year, the Company sees a tremendous sales opportunity.

Crimson Fire is marketing the vehicles from Boise Mobile Equipment, an industry specialist in wildland fire apparatus. The new Wildland line of vehicles offer rugged, durable construction paired with innovative technology designed to provide a sturdy vehicle capable of the rigors of remote firefighting.

The Wildland/Initial Attack vehicle is 17,950 pounds GVW with a 6 liter V8, 325hp diesel Powerstroke engine. It features "designed-in" spare tire and hard-suction compartments to offer greater storage, a low center of gravity for improved performance and safety and an all-aluminum body for greater strength.
