Original Press Release:

New RIDGID® Manual PEX Crimp Tools Feature Ergonomic Handles, Light Weight

Tools Require Up To One-Third Less Force

ELYRIA, OHIO - July 2006 - A new series of lightweight RIDGID® manual PEX crimp tools is now available for crimping PEX and multi-layer tubing for radiant heat and potable water applications with PEX systems using ASTM F 1807 copper crimp rings.

While the new RIDGID PEX crimp tools are 20 percent lighter than competitive crimping tools, they require up to one-third less force to produce a crimp.

The new manual PEX crimp tools feature lightweight, ergonomically designed E3(TM) (Expert-Engineered Ergonomics) handles constructed of glass-filled polycarbonate for reduced weight and increased strength. The handle design enables users to crimp with minimal effort and fatigue.

The series of manual PEX tools consists of six tools in five sizes: 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1" and a combination 1/2"- 3/4" tool. Each tool is packaged with a stamped metal Go/No-Go gauge to enable the user to verify that the crimp is acceptable.

The new RIDGID manual PEX crimp tools were designed to produce a crimp without the unsightly appearance of tool marks and the distortion of crimped rings. An adjustment cam feature allows the user to recalibrate the tool as needed. The jaws are constructed for maximum strength and durability.

"This new line of manual PEX crimp tools is Ridge Tool's initial introduction into PEX tools for the ASTM F 1807 standard," said Matt Ondrejko, director of alternate joining technologies. "The RIDGID manual PEX tools are capable of crimping the majority of crimp PEX system installations."

The RIDGID manual PEX tools were designed to conform to ASTM F 1807 copper crimp ring specifications. PEX tubing providers that offer the ASTM F 1807 copper crimp ring system include Vanguard Piping Systems, Inc. (Vanex®), Zurn Plumbing Products (Zurn®), Watts Water Technologies, Inc. (Watts®) and Consolidated Plumbing Industries (DURA-PEX(TM)).
