Cree XLamp® LED Named a 2006 Product of the Year by Electronic Products

DURHAM, NC, JANUARY 24, 2007 - Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE), a leader in LED solid-state lighting components, today announced that Electronic Products Magazine has named the Cree XLamp® XR-E Series white LED a 2006 Product of the Year.

From hundreds of new products covered by the publication in 2006, the editors chose 19 for special recognition based on significant advances in technology or application, innovation in design and/or substantial gain in price/performance. Cree's new white Cree XLamp XR-E Series LEDs produce typical luminous flux of 80 lumens at 350 mA, yielding 70 lumens per watt, and establish a new lighting class of LED performance.

"Our Product of the Year Awards are geared to honor a select group of products our editors feel are outstanding," notes Alix Paultre, Electronic Products executive editor. "Producing an output of up to 160 lumens with a drive current of 700 mA, the Cree XLamp XR-E Series LED represents the latest milestone in the migration from incandescent lamps to solid-state lighting."

"With the rapid pace of innovation in the power LED marketplace, it is quite an honor to have the XLamp white LED named as one of Electronic Products Magazine's 2006 Products of the Year," says Norbert Hiller, Cree vice president and general manager of XLamp LEDs. "We are proud of our accomplishments in 2006 and are especially pleased to be recognized by this influential trade publication."
