Komatsu Adds D37EX-22 and D37PX-22 Crawler Dozers to Its HST Dozer Fleet

Built On the Success of the D51 Dozer, the D37 Dozers Offer Superior Power and Visibility

Rolling Meadows, IL, June 25, 2008 - Komatsu America Corp. introduces the D37EX-22 and D37PX-22 crawler dozers. Equipped with Komatsu's proven Hydrostatic Transmission (HST), these machines are designed for work in general construction, site preparation, home building, forestry and utility applications. Building on the successful design of the D51-22 dozer series, the D37EX-22 machines feature a super-slant nose coupled with a new cab forward design that moves the operator closer to the blade while improving machine balance, ride and stability.

Outfitted with a fuel efficient 3.26 Liter, EPA Tier 3 emissions certified Komatsu SAAD95LE-5 engine, these new models push with a net horsepower of 89 HP at 2,200 RPM and range in operating weight from 17,394 to 19,070 pounds, depending on the machine version. With 88 inches of track on the ground, both standard (EX) and low ground pressure (PX) models offer customers weight distribution and flotation options to best match their application.

The D37-22 steering system provides smooth agile movement when dozing, even in gradual turns, permitting the operator to approach dozing objects accurately in corner grading and sidewall operations. The D37-22 dozers employ a large power angle tilt blade with a capacity of 2.32 yd3 to 2.55 yd3, which results in more material staying on the blade and making it a more productive machine.

The new dozer is equipped with the latest KOMTRAX® technology which sends machine operating information to a secure website utilizing wireless technology. Hour meter, location, cautions and maintenance alerts - to name a few of its features - are relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

Special features of the D37EX/PX-22 include:

Hydrostatic Transmission That Molds Itself To Your Operators And Operations
Selection of either Variable or Quick-shift speed control allows the D37-22 dozers to achieve maximum efficiency during fine or rough grading operations with optimal travel speeds to match job conditions and operator preferences. Switching between modes is as simple as pushing a button.

When the variable speed is selected, travel speed is adjustable through a 20-incremental speed range. Travel speed is shown on an LED monitor display and controlled by utilizing the shift buttons on the PCCS travel control. The Quick-Shift Speed Selection enables the operator to select three predetermined speed settings to match job conditions. A separate brake and decelerator pedal provide easy, predictable operation.

Blade Visibility And Comfortable Ride
The new cab forward, integrated ROPS / FOPS dozer cab--designed with large glass windows--provides more room for operators while moving them closer to the blade for improved blade visibility and increased comfort. Internal cab air pressure and air filters minimize dust inside the cab, and new cab damper mounts suppress noise and vibration when traveling over rough terrain.

Palm Command Control System (PCCS)
Komatsu's low-effort Palm Command Control System (PCCS) is ergonomically designed to not only provide efficient operation, but also enhance operator comfort. The Palm Command Control System travel joystick allows the operator to maintain a relaxed posture without sacrificing control. The blade control joystick utilizes the Proportional Pressure Control (PPC) valve for fine control of machine operation.

Convenient Maintenance Equals Guaranteed Reliability
Recognizing that maintenance is critical for successful equipment uptime, Komatsu designed the D37-22 with easy routine maintenance in mind. Daily engine checks are grouped at the left-hand side of the engine compartment for easy access, while the rear mounted swing-up electronically-controlled reversible hydraulic fan allows for easy checks of the radiator, oil cooler and Charge Air Cooler. The D37-22 also boasts extended undercarriage life with new larger diameter bushings for reduced undercarriage maintenance costs.

Other features that contribute to maintenance efficiency and machine durability include:

Ground level daily checks for easy maintenance.
Hydraulic dynamic braking system, requiring less maintenance than conventional braking systems.
Improved track life with increased bushing diameter, improved seals, long link pitch and a lubricated track.
Large bolt-on center blade ball increases wear life.
Central cab monitor is equipped with onboard diagnostics to help speed repairs.
Heavy-plate steel and strong steel castings used throughout.
