Crane Weighing System provides lifecycle measurement.

Press Release Summary:

Incorporating double-ended, shear beam load cells and process control instruments, Crane-Weighing Solution complies with European standard FEM 9.755, which establishes calculation of service intervals and lifecycle measurement parameters. Load cells feature capacity from 0.5 kN and combined error of 0.2-0.5% of R.O. Connecting up to 8 load cells in individual channels, solution sums all channels, controls and logs overload, performs standard weighing functions, and displays total weight.

New Vishay Systems Crane-Weighing Solution with Life Cycle Measurement Optimizes Service and Maintenance Intervals, Is Compliant with FEM 9.755

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - October 13, 2009 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announces a new Vishay Nobel crane-weighing solution from Vishay Systems. It incorporates Vishay load cells and Vishay Systems state-of-the-art instrumentation for logging time, position, and weight to optimize service and maintenance intervals. It provides a cost-effective crane-weighing solution that complies with European crane standard FEM 9.755, which establishes calculation of service intervals and life-cycle measurement parameters for cranes above 1000 kg.

The new Vishay Nobel crane-weighing solution uses double-ended shear beam load cells with I-beam cross-sections and G4 advanced process control instrumentation. The ATEX-approved load cells feature capacity from 0.5 kN, combined error of 0.2 to 0.5% of R .O., and cable or connector interface. G4 process control instruments have four base mounting options: DIN rail, panel, desktop, and harsh environment. All G4 models feature flexible configuration, synchronized sampling of all channels, a fast update rate of up to 800 updates per second, integrated and flexible digital I/O, easy parameter backup and restoration via USB port or internal memory, and communication via Ethernet, Profibus, DeviceNet, Modbus, USB, RS485, RS232, and Modbus/TCP.

The crane-weighing solution, which is applicable to new and existing cranes, connects up to 8 load cells in individual channels, sums all channels, controls and logs overload, performs standard weighing functions, and displays total weight and difference between crane sides. It also sets values for up to 32 load levels, logs up to three different operation times, compensates for faulty load cells, enables data downloading onto memory sticks, and enables communication via field bus or analog output.

Collection of information such as weight, time, and engine running hours enables better crane security and enhanced safety. Other benefits include longer life time of cranes and optimized service intervals, which result in cost savings. In addition, Vishay Nobel G4 software can be tailored to meet customers' needs.
