Crane 1 Services Awarded $2.25 Million Dollar Contract for Refurbishment of Four Kone Cranes


Crane 1 Services was recently awarded a 2-1/4 million dollar contract to refurbish and modernize 4 Kone-Landel bucket cranes located in the DSLF at the Blue Plains Advanced Water Treatment Plant.  The contract which was awarded by Amerrica contracting and Environmental includes mechanical, structural, electrical and controls work to improve the safety and reliability of the cranes and obtain an additional 15 years of service life.  The Kone-Landel cranes, installed in 1993 have experienced numerous and reoccuring problems with all four cranes that affect both reliability and productivity.  Crane 1 Services will be installing complete control and drive systems designed by USA based Magnetek to replace the controls furnished by the Finland based OEM Kone.  The new controls along with replacement of numerous mechanical and structural elements of the cranes will return the units to a highly productive and reliable state.  The crane control cabins will beature state of the art filters to remove high levels of Amonia that are present in the buildings atmosphere.  New weighing systems will be installed on the buckets to properly monitor the loads handeled by the bucket cranes.  The project will begin in late December 2013 and is expected to be completed in early spring 2014.
