Firetide Provides Secure Solution for Extending Reach of Outdoor Wireless Mesh Networks Indoors

Company's Customer Premises Equipment Delivers Privacy and Security for Service Providers Deploying Municipal and Business Wireless Networks

LAS VEGAS, May 22 // -- Firetide, a wireless mesh equipment vendor, today announced at Interop Las Vegas the release of its Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) designed to extend the reach of outdoor wireless networks to the indoors. The Firetide CPE supports the industry's most advanced security to ensure privacy of customer communications and reduce service provider liability.

To maintain optimal user experience and connectivity anywhere, the company developed a true end-to-end solution tailored to operators that offer wireless services directly to residents and small home and business offices (SOHO). Like all components of Firetide's larger wireless ecosystem, the CPE offers advanced encryption under the second generation of Wi-Fi Protected Access, or WPA2, for an unmatched, solid and trusted infrastructure.

"Firetide CPE completes wireless mesh ecosystem requested by service providers deploying municipal and enterprise wireless networks," said Bo Larsson, CEO, Firetide. "With advanced security, flexibility, and performance, Firetide CPE offers an attractive package to Firetide's service provider customers."

Unique to the industry, Firetide's CPE comes in two versions -- indoor and outdoor -- to provide added flexibility in any environment. The indoor variety is critical for large-scale municipal deployments that require reliable access to penetrate through thick walls. The rugged outdoor CPE can be placed on rooftops, in atriums and outdoor hallways, making it ideal for office buildings and multi-dwelling units. The outdoor CPE is power over Ethernet-enabled for extra versatility.

"The CPE from Firetide will allow us to offer residential and business wireless broadband in many markets in Asia-Pacific," commented Ken Chua, CEO, iCELL, a wireless service provider in Singapore. "It is a cost-effective and secure way to extend outdoor wireless network for indoor coverage, where an indoor mesh network is not required."

The Firetide CPE will be available in August. Using Firetide's mesh management platform, HotView Pro, service providers can configure the CPE to offer guaranteed throughput to end customers, supporting their service level agreements. The Firetide CPE connects to multiple outdoor access points providing users redundancy of coverage and better signal availability, featuring high-power 400 milliwatts radio. The product also allows for efficient power management between high-power outdoor access points and low-power consumer equipment including laptops, mp3 players, and cameras.
