Cox Launches 50/5 Internet Speeds in Connecticut with DOCSIS 3.0

Cox Offers the Fastest Download Speed in the Marketplace

MANCHESTER, Conn., Aug. 12 -- Cox Communications announced the launch of Cox Ultimate Internet to residential and business customers in Connecticut, powered by DOCSIS 3.0 technology. The Ultimate Tier allows for download speeds of 50 Mbps and upload speeds of 5 Mbps (up to 55/5 with PowerBoost(TM). The download speed is the fastest available in the area, which considerably improves online gaming and streaming video experiences, among others.

"The technology powering Cox Ultimate Internet - DOCSIS 3.0 - is the pinnacle of internet speed and reliability," said Doreen Studley, vice president of marketing, Cox Communications New England. "The advantages are significant for Connecticut residents and businesses sharing vast amounts of multimedia content everyday."

Heavy users include those active in online gaming communities, those who download and upload large quantities of photos and videos, and consumers who rely on the internet for video entertainment, including streaming HD content. Businesses would also see a benefit from Cox Ultimate Internet, especially those with significant multimedia sharing requirements.

Along with the increased speeds, Cox's residential Ultimate Internet provides customers three unique IP addresses, 10 e-mail addresses, and 50 hours per month of remote dial access (with the ability to purchase extra hours). The standard price for the residential Ultimate Tier is $99.99 per month.

The third generation of cable's DOCSIS service introduces channel bonding, a technology that can bond parallel cable channels to transmit data at faster speeds. Those speeds are further enhanced with PowerBoost(TM), a cable-exclusive technology that provides an extra burst of speed when it's needed.

Cox plans to offer DOCSIS 3.0 speeds in more than two-thirds of its systems across the country by the end of 2010. More information about Cox High Speed Internet is available online at
