Cover Strip protects linear guides from contamination.
Press Release Summary:
Made from stainless steel, BAC Cover Strip for MONORAIL BM provides alternative to plastic caps that cover counterbored mounting holes in profile rail of linear guideway assembly. Measuring .5 mm thick, strip is placed on top of rail and snapped into full-length groove along where holes are drilled. Since width of cover strip is narrower than width of guide rail, exposed surface on top of rail can be used as reference during assembly.
Original Press Release:
Linear Guide Coverstrip Offers Easy Installation and Protection Against Contamination-Now Available For Ball Monorail
Bedford, MA, December 6, 2004--Schneeberger, Inc. announced a significant addition to its line of MONORAIL BM linear guideway accessories. Already available for MONORAIL MR, the BAC Coverstrip for Ball Monorail is designed as an alternative to the traditional plastic caps that cover the counterbored mounting holes in a profile rail of a precision linear guideway assembly. BAC Coverstrips give machine designers a virtual one-step alternative to a typically time-consuming, multi-step process.
BAC offers the following advantages:
o Quick, Easy Installation. The cover strip is simply placed on the top of the rail and snapped into a full-length rail groove along where the holes are drilled. This saves up to 50% of the time normally needed for installing a hole cap in each hole, which can take hours to install on very long rails.
o No Loss of Reference Surface. Since the width of the cover strip is narrower than the width of the guide rail, an exposed surface on top of the rail that is precision ground can be used as a reference during assembly.
o Contamination Protection. Coolant, dirt and various types of debris will not get inside the bores of the holes.
o Wiper Protection. Wipers are protected during installation because the rough edges of the rail bores are recessed below the groove and do not come in contact with the wipers.
The BAC cover strip is made from stainless steel and offers a rugged cover that will not bend or break from being stepped on or from tools that may be dropped on it during assembly. In addition, its smooth top surface lengthens the life of the wipers on the ends of the linear carriages that travel along the rail. The BAC cover strip is .5 millimeters thick and thus substantially more robust than competitive designs.
Compared to traditional rail hole caps, the BAC coverstrip reduces installation time, is reusable, and provides increased protection in applications with a high degree of contamination. Additionally, Schneeberger offers a special tool, the BWC, to facilitate installation of the BAC.
The MONORAIL BM offers outstanding running characteristics such as: low pulsation, low friction values and high traveling speeds. Consisting of a few optimally designed components, the MONORAIL BM achieves high rigidity due to the trapezoid-shaped rail cross section and also has excellent resistance to moment loads. Due to the selected ball arrangement, this guideway has a high load bearing capacity equal in any direction.
Available in sizes 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 45, the MONORAIL BM comes in three preload categories, four accuracy grades and has single rail lengths of up to 6,000mm. Maximum speeds of 5m/s and accelerations of 100m/s² can be achieved. Typical operating temperatures are -40°C to +80°C. Short-term temperatures up to 120°C are possible. Customers can now order all sizes and travel lengths from the full line of MONORAIL BM with 2nd Day Delivery.
