Corning Cable Systems to Highlight Innovative LAN and Data Center Solutions at BICSI 2009 Fall Conference

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, will highlight its innovative local area network (LAN) and data center solutions at the 2009 BICSI Fall Conference, Sept. 21-24 in Las Vegas.

In its interactive exhibit (booth #601), Corning Cable Systems will provide hands-on demonstrations of its new LANscape® Pretium® cables with ultra-bendable performance. The cables' enhanced bend performance is enabled by Corning® ClearCurve® multimode fiber. A minimum bend radius as small as five times the outer diameter of the cable is offered in some designs, compared to 10 times in traditional 50 micron cables. Therefore, tight bend situations that would result in elevated attenuation and adversely-impacted system performance with traditional 50 micron cables, result in minimal attenuation increase with the new Pretium cables enabled by ClearCurve multimode fiber.

Typical installations where bend performance is critical will be replicated in the exhibit with LANscape Pretium cables enabled by Corning ClearCurve multimode fiber and traditional 50 micron cables for comparison. Each scenario will be live-tested, reported and compared. Visitors to the booth who can spot the cables enabled by ClearCurve fiber in any of the live tests will win a football.

The exhibit will also include:

o Plug & Play(TM) Universal Systems, a preterminated optical fiber cabling system that streamlines the process of deploying an optical network infrastructure in the data center environment. Corning Cable Systems Plug & Play Universal Systems are 100G ready and capable of reliably supporting transmission speeds up to 100G with laser-optimized 50 µm multimode fiber (OM3).

o Corning Cable Systems' Integrated Trunk Module (ITM), a factory-terminated MTP® trunk in a single-wide Plug & Play Universal Systems module. Available in 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 ft options, the product is simple to deploy and redeploy.

o Pretium® Intelligent Manager, which allows the infrastructure hardware and cabling to be connected to iTRACS software and compatible analyzers, forming an intelligent infrastructure management solution (IIMS). The system allows for the efficient administration and tracking of moves, adds and changes, which can reduce operating expenses. It also monitors the system and provides alerts for quick corrective action of errors to minimize costly downtime.

o Corning Cable Systems' new OV-Mini Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), a rugged, handheld and lightweight solution for testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks that gives operators the flexibility to test single-mode and 50 micron/62.5 micron multimode systems with the same unit.

o OTS-600 series tester with data storage capabilities, ideal for optical network certification and designed with ease of use as the top priority, while maintaining all the functionality one expects from an optical tester.

o Corning Cable Systems' new single-fiber port cleaners, proven effective for removing skin oil, hand lotion, Arizona road dust, pre- and post-mate graphite, salt, isopropyl and distilled water residues from connector end-faces in panels and adapters. Corning Cable Systems' easy-to-use single-fiber port cleaners enable over 525 cleanings in hard-to-reach places using the extendable tip. Cleaning unmated connectors can be accomplished by using the integrated dust cap.

A variety of Corning Cable Systems' fusion splicers will also be shown in the exhibit. The OptiSplice® CDS Fusion Splicer, offering a video-camera-based, core-alignment technology known as the core detection system (CDS), is an ideal machine for networks where low-loss performance is imperative. The OptiSplice M90e Fusion Splicer offers the power-through core alignment accuracy of Corning Cable Systems' LID-SYSTEM(TM) Unit along with the speed and versatility of a CDS. Finally, the OptiSplice One Handheld Fusion Splicer will be shown, which features an intuitive user interface; dual cameras; straight-forward maintenance; an ultra-fast, heat-shrink oven; and high-capacity Li-Ion battery.
