Corning Cable Systems to Highlight Flexibility in FTTH Deployment Solutions from Central Office to the Home at the 2011 FTTH Conference & Expo

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, will highlight flexibility in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment solutions at the 2011 FTTH Conference & Expo, Sept. 26-30 in Orlando.

In its updated and leading edge environmental exhibit (booth #1013), Corning will feature its latest solutions designed to make FTTH deployment seamless and easy. Customers will get firsthand experience with Corning's flexible FTTH deployment solution sets, beginning with a compact solution for the central office and progressing through three preconnectorized methods of reaching the subscriber premises: Distributed Split, Local Convergence and Branch/Star Topology. Each solution set includes interoperable components that help maximize cost efficiency in network designs.

The exhibit will include demonstrations of the Corning Cable Systems' OptiSnap® Connector as well as splice equipment and test equipment. Corning will also display an interactive 46-inch LCD touch-screen television; by simply touching an image, visitors can access detailed information about the products and solutions on display.

In addition to these activities, Corning will be participating in several events at the conference:

o On Thurs., Sept. 29, at 10:15 a.m., Bob Whitman, Director, Global FTTH Programs for Corning Cable Systems, will moderate the "Large Carrier Perspectives Panel." Executives from some of the globe's most influential carriers will discuss successes, challenges and lessons learned from their fiber-to-the-home initiatives.

o On Thurs., Sept. 29, at 3:15 p.m., Dr. Thomas Knuth of Corning will present "Ways to Solve the MDU Challenge of Deploying Fiber to the Subscriber." Dr. Knuth will review key factors for choosing an effective MDU architecture and help participants understand the relevance of each factor on the business case.

o On Friday, Sept. 30, at the 12:30 p.m. closing session, Corning will present the eighth annual FTTXcellence Award. The FTTXcellence Award, presented by Corning and Lightwave magazine, honors an individual for his or her contributions to the deployment of optical access networks in North America.

Corning's Evolant® Solutions products will be used as the optical distribution network within the FTTH Council's FiberZone, using an industry-standard passive optical network architecture. The FiberZone will feature Corning Cable Systems' compact Eclipse® Hardware frame and splitter module at the central office. The last-mile segment will feature the OptiSheath(TM) UltraNAP(TM) Terminal, which offers four single-fiber connector ports that feed four individual subscribers, along with two multi-fiber ports. The multi-fiber ports will branch into two separate OptiSheath MultiPort Terminals, where the ROC® Drop Cable Assembly completes the FTTH connection.
