Corning Cable Systems Fiber Optic Cables Receive Continued Listing for USDA Rural Development Telecommunications Borrowers

Corning Cable Systems loose tube and ribbon cables meet revised Code of Federal Regulations section 7 CFR 1755.900 requirements

HICKORY, N.C. Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, is pleased to announce that its outside plant loose tube, all-dielectric self-supporting, ribbon and service drop fiber optic cables will continue to be listed on the Informational Publication 344-2, List of Materials Acceptable for Use on Systems of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Telecommunications Borrowers.

The continued listing was approved by the USDA's Technical Standards Committee "A" Telecommunications after a review of information that Corning Cable Systems provided regarding its outside plant loose tube, all-dielectric self-supporting, ribbon and service drop fiber optic cables. The Code of Federal Regulations section 7 CFR 1755.900 includes a new mid-span buffer tube test that confirms the low-temperature performance of coiled buffer tubes installed in closures and pedestals. Corning Cable Systems has successfully demonstrated passing laboratory data, successful field performance to these highly functional requirements as well as relevant and positive customer testimonials.

In addition, Technical Standards Committee "A" Telecommunications will continue listing Corning Cable Systems gel-free ribbon cables without any limiting condition. Test data provided proves these cables to have optimal ribbon coupling, making them well-suited for direct-buried, duct and aerial installations. The new required tests address fiber reliability concerns that can result from improper or nonexistent ribbon coupling.
