The First Internet Telephone with On-Screen e-Mail and News

New RTX wireless Internet telephone creates value for carriers by integrating the telephone with innovative new services and personal web content

Noerresundby, Denmark, March 1, 2006 - RTX's now takes Internet telephony a step further with the new LAN Cordless DUALphone. The new cordless phone with integrated Internet access is to be unveiled by the company at this year's CeBIT trade fair in Hanover, Germany (Hall 12, C58/1). In particular, the innovative technology from RTX offers carriers the opportunity to take advantage of the booming VoIP market and stem the mass exodus of customers from the fixed-line sector.

Phoning over the Internet has become widely accepted as an inexpensive alternative to fixed-line tariffs, with voice over IP technology (VoIP). In the future, new service applications will emerge addressing rising customer demand for wireless access to the Internet. RTX, the specialist developer of wireless communication solutions, will be unveiling a new device at this year's CeBIT which not only unifies both functions, but also has an integrated color display. The new LAN Cordless DUALphone is a session initiation protocol (SIP) device that combines a standard phone connection, Internet telephony and storage for Web content. The base station is connected both to the conventional telephone system and to the broadband Internet link, thereby allowing calls from both channels. The LAN Cordless DUALphone offers customers on-screen information such as the latest news, e-mail, stock market data, weather forecasts, traffic queues or sports results - all displayed in real time on a brilliant color display. Availability depends on the services provided by the carrier concerned.

Lars Godell, analyst at Forrester Research, explains: "Telcos like BT and France Telecom will have the chance to keep dominating the future voice markets as long as they continue with their proactive and innovative VoIP response strategies." *

The LAN Cordless DUALphone's extensive functionality is not only an appealing alternative to conventional phones for consumers. RTX also creates attractive value added for carriers and phone operators who can exploit the inexpensive combination of phone and Internet access to combat falling sales and diminishing customer bases in the conventional telephony market. "Up to now, carriers tended to shun IP telephony because they feared it would lead to plummeting fixed-line telephony sales," says Jorgen Elbaek, President & CEO of RTX Telecom. "With our new LAN Cordless DUALphone, carriers are now able to offer their customers a single end-device which not only allows them to continue phoning in the fixed-line network as before, but also to communicate over the Internet and call up web content. Our product could be heralding in a new era because firstly it is the ideal solution to carriers' problems, i.e. churn and revenue loss, and secondly it generates new and innovative services",
Jorgen Elbaek continues.
