New Metabo Cordless Hammer Drill Features High Torque for Increased Performance in Heavy Duty Applications

West Chester, PA, June 2004 - Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, announces the availability of the new SBP 18 Plus cordless hammer drill that provides increased performance in a variety of heavy duty applications. The new hammer drill is ideal for use in impact drilling environments, such as concrete and brickwork, as well as drilling in other construction materials, including steel, wood, and aluminum.

The new SBP 18 Plus offers several upgrades and improvements including a larger motor that offers higher torque and 20% more power over the previous model, which translates directly into reduced labor and increased performance. The increase in size and power also reduces the chance of overloading the motor, and allows the motor to run at lower operating temperatures, thereby increasing the tool's effective service life. The completely enclosed housing and a seal in the charging slot of the new SBP 18 offer exceptional protection against dirt and dampness.

The battery system used for the new cordless tool has also been reengineered to increase performance. The tool's high capacity 18 V battery can reach a full charge with the new C45 charger 25% faster than with the former charger. Each battery offers 2.4 Amp hours, and a service life of 2,000 or more charges.

The SBP 18 Plus features a 2-speed gearbox, five torque settings, and Metabo's Variospeed technology to match performance exactly to the work. Metabo's unique Impuls system allows the user to drive tough screws as well as drill in metal and ceramic without center punching. The new hammer drill provides a drill setting for rotation only, as well as a hammer drill setting for rotation with impact.

With its 1/2" keyless chuck, the Metabo SBP 18 Plus can drill holes up to 2" in diameter in wood, 1/2" diameter in steel, and 5/8" diameter in concrete. The new cordless drill provides 22,400 bpm, and a no-load speed of 0 to 400 rpm in first gear, as well as 0 to 1,400 rpm in second gear. Torque ranges from 265 to 575 inch-lbs. The hammer drill weighs 6.8 pounds; features a 2-position fixed side handle; and comes with a heavy duty ABS carrying case.
