Original Press Release:

DeWalt's New Compact Cordless Drills are Smaller, Faster, Stronger

BALTIMORE, February 2002- DEWALT has redesigned its line of 12-volt, 14.4-volt, and 18-volt compact cordless drill/drivers, making them smaller and better balanced while adding extra power and durability.

The new compact drill/drivers are especially suited for electricians, mechanical and HVAC installers, woodworkers, cabinet installers, and other tradespeople who prefer a smaller tool for tight spaces, but want the power normally found in a larger drill/driver.

The new models are 7/8" shorter in length but have a newly designed motor with all-metal planetary gears for increased power and durability. All three models are faster and produce more torque than their predecessors. The T-style handle is better positioned to improve the tool's balance and feel. In addition, a new 3/8" ratcheting chuck with serrated jaws allows for 15 percent more tightening force on the bit while greatly reducing bit slippage during use.

The new 12-volt DW927K-2 model produces from 0 to 1,400 revolutions-per-minute (RPM) and 300 in./lbs. of max torque - a 43 percent improvement. It weighs only 3.9 lbs. with the battery and comes with a heavy-duty kit box, two batteries, and a one-hour charger for about $149.

The new 14.4-volt DW928K-2 model produces from 0 to 1,400 RPM and 350 in./lbs. of max torque - a 25 percent improvement. It weighs only 4.2 lbs. with the battery and comes with a heavy-duty kit box, two batteries, and a one-hour charger for about $179.

The new 18-volt DW929K-2 model produces from 0 to 1,500 RPM and 400 in.lbs. of max torque - a 23 percent improvement. It weighs only 4.5 lbs. with the battery and comes with a heavy-duty kit box, two batteries, and a one-hour charger for about $209.
