New Metabo 18V Cordless Drill/Driver Features Larger Motor and Increased Power

West Chester, PA, May 2004 - Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, announces the availability of a new drill/driver with an enlarged motor, higher power, greater torque and enhanced battery/charger system. The new BSP 18 Plus, which gives users "corded" performance in a cordless drill/driver, is ideal for a variety of applications for drilling into wood, aluminum, and steel.

The larger motor of the BSP 18 Plus delivers a higher torque of up to 575 inch-lbs. and 20% more power beyond the range of similarly rated corded drill/drivers. Increased power and torque allow the operator to drive more screws and drill more holes in less time. Additionally, the increased size and power reduce the motor's load and operating temperatures, which increases the tool's service life.

The BSP 18 Plus offers a 2-speed gearbox, 20 torque settings, and Metabo's Variospeed technology to match tool performance exactly to the work. The Metabo Impuls system allows the user to drive tough screws as well as drill in metal and ceramic without center punching. The BSP 18 Plus can drill holes up to 2" in diameter in wood and 1/2" diameter in steel, and features a 1/2" keyless chuck. No-load speed in first gear is 0 to 400 rpm and 0 to 1,400 rpm in second gear. Torque ranges from 265 to 575 inch-lbs. The drill weighs 6.2 pounds, features a 2-position fixed side handle, and comes with a heavy duty ABS carrying case.

The battery system used for the new cordless tool has also been improved, offering increased performance. The 18 V battery offers 2.4 Ah, and can reach a full charge in 45 minutes on the new C45 charger, a performance increase of 25% over the previous charger. Battery service life is 2,000 or more charges.
