Makita Releases New Cordless Chain Saw Powered by Two 18V LXT® Batteries for 36V Power & Run Time

New HCU02ZX2 chain saw delivers power and run time of 36V, but without leaving the 18V platform

La Mirada, CA Makita, a worldwide manufacturer of technologically advanced power tools that are more compact with less weight yet deliver industrial power and results, has released the new 18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) 12" Chain Saw, model HCU02ZX2. Makita has also released a new 36V LXT® Lithium-Ion 12" Chain Saw (HCU02C1).

18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) Cordless 12" Chain Saw (HCU02ZX2)

HCU02ZX2: Powered by Two 18V Batteries

The new HCU02ZX2 is powered by two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries for 36V power and run time. With a 12" guide bar and chain speed of 1,650 feet per minute (FPM), the new HCU02ZX2 Chain Saw is engineered for demanding cutting applications, but without the noise, emissions, and maintenance of a gas powered model.

The HCU02X2 Chain Saw is the latest addition to the groundbreaking 18V X2 LXT® platform, delivering 36V power and run-time, but powered by the same 18V LXT® batteries used in 65+ other Makita 18V cordless tools in the expanding 18V LXT® line-up.

"The primary tools on a contractor's tool belt like drills and impact drivers are meeting jobsite demands within the 18V platform, but secondary cordless tools like rotary hammers and outdoor power equipment are still underpowered," said Mario Lopez, Makita Product Manager, Cordless Tools. "Makita understands the importance of staying within strongly-preferred 18V platform, so in 2012 we released the 18V X2 Rotary Hammer powered by two 18V batteries for 36V power and run time. Now, we've delivered an 18V X2 solution for chain saw users with the HCU02ZX2, which delivers 36V power and run time without leaving the 18V platform."

Lower Noise, Zero Emissions

The HCU02ZX2 has lower noise at only 89 dB(A) and zero emissions, making the HCU02ZX2 ideal for applications in residential areas. The 18V X2 cordless HCU02ZX2 requires little maintenance, with no need to change a spark plug, clean an air filter, or drain fuel for storage: simply insert two charged 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries and the tool is ready for work.

Additional benefits include "tool-less" chain adjustments for convenient user operation and maintenance, as well as a front hand guard engineered to actuate the electric brake when engaged. Ease-of-use features include the adjustable automatic chain lubrication with large oil reservoir, as well as the large oil filling port with view window. The HCU02ZX2 also has LED battery indicators that show the charge level for each 18V battery (batteries sold separately). The ergonomic top-handle design with an ergonomic grip is engineered for the user to more easily apply even pressure when cutting. The HCU02ZX2 is 24-5/8" long and weighs only 11.2 lbs. with batteries (batteries sold separately).

"Since 2005 Makita has focused on delivering targeted jobsite solutions with the right tool for the right job, while remaining within the 18V LXT® platform," said Lopez. "Landscapers have demanding cutting applications, and Makita has responded with the new 18V X2 Chain Saw that delivers the performance that landscapers demand, but without having to deal having to buy high voltage and manage different chargers. Right now the real question for contractors is, 'What can your 18 volt battery do for you?' Makita answers the question with 18V X2 LXT®, a new 18V cordless solution for corded power demands."

36V LXT® Lithium-Ion 12" Chain Saw (HCU02C1)

Makita has also released a new 36V LXT® Lithium-Ion Chain Saw (model HCU02C1). The new HCU02C1 has similar performance specs as the 18V X2 HCU02ZX2, but is powered by the Makita 36V Lithium-Ion battery. The HCU02C1 can be fitted with the LXT® Adaptor (BCV02) to be powered by two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries (adaptor and 18V batteries sold separately).

Warranty

Makita Lithium-Ion tools are backed by Makita's 3-Year Warranty which covers repair due to defective materials or workmanship up to three years from the purchase date. 1-year warranty on the batteries and charger.
